I wonder who could be best to play The Joker... He's a magnificent character. Lets face it, any creative proactive antagonists tend to be brilliant characters. Unfortunately to date he has not been played by someone who can capture the essence or the look of the character.

He has a sharp face with a pointed nose and chin. So they choose to cast people who have wide faces and bland nose and chins.

My immediate thought was Edward Norton, but I'd much rather see the character played by someone who looked the part, rather than being a superstar who vaguely resembles the part.

Do you guys know anyone who looks like they could play the role? Either simply seeing a video or picture of them, or someone you know personally.

Heath Ledger's psychological interpretation is supposed to be a new spin. But his face is—excuse me, WAS—wide.

Maybe they should cast DJ Qualls. Now THERE'S a skinny, angular guy.

I like the Ed Norton idea, though.

I don't like the fact that he "Tried" to read Arkham Asylum, but had to put it down. And went on to play the joker. Should be interested to watch him play the role though. I'd like to see Jim Carrey play the role TBH, he's a fun ENTP kinda guy.

He even has the right face and laugh.

Johnny Depp. I think he has the right look and a wide enough range to easily play the ultimate Joker. He would make an excellent villain, hard to love but impossible to hate, and still be ruthless and shocking.

Johnny Depp and Jim Carrey would both be horrible. They're way too predictable in their acting styles.

That's what I love about the casting of Heath Ledger: he never really played a part anything like the Joker. When I see him as the Joker, I see the Joker. If it were Jim Carrey or Johnny Depp, I'd see the actor.

No, you'd see the roles they've played in the past.

The Joker is an ENTP, Ace Ventura seemed to have been as well.
Captain Jack Sparrow seems to have been an ENTP. As is the Joker.

If they're properly made up and they study the roles those two actors can disappear into a character.

I would like to see Jim Carrey do it. He has a joking personality. Orlando Bloom is overused and is too ubiquitous. I wouldn't mind Depp, but I still prefer Carrey.

Lol, it's funny when you are serious ShaiGar.

No. The roles contribute to it, but some actors perform in such a way that you can see the acting process. Jim Carrey personifies this to me; I can see him thinking about what he's doing. It completely breaks the immersion to me.

The Joker is an ENTP, Ace Ventura seemed to have been as well.
Captain Jack Sparrow seems to have been an ENTP. As is the Joker.

That's part of the problem. I don't want to see the Joker and be reminded of Ace Ventura or Jack Sparrow. I want to see the Joker and only the Joker. If you cast someone who has already played similar parts, it will break the immersion. That's why Heath Ledger was a great choice, regardless of the shape of his face.

The Joker needs to be played by an unknown actor, or someone who is not well known for playing character roles.

I see Ledger and think of Ned Kelly. Another extremely famous criminal.
He was a terrible choice because of that face, I agree that it needs to be played by an unknown, and infact nearly all of the comic to movie characters need to be played by unknowns who are brought in by marvel or dc for a year or two, and given acting training. That's the reason I asked you if you knew anybody who could play the role.

Though, to be honest, Carreys' chin is too wide. Love to see him in full costume though.

I'd also like to see The Riddler reprised by DJ Qualls or David Hyde Pierce. Carrey was never right for the role of an INTP...

I guess I don't place as much emphasis on facial structure as you do.

At least not for the Joker. If the make-up's right and the voice is right, and the person can make me believe they're the Joker, I'm happy. Doesn't really matter to me how pointy his chin is.

I can't believe anyone would even entertain the idea of Orlando Bloom as the Joker. Reprehensible!

David Hyde Pierce would be interesting as the Riddler. Carrey was an abomination.

I think Ledger's Joker might be so good that people start thinking of him automatically as the Joker (not Jack Nicholson), and soon nobody will care about how wide his face is. Ledger in that role is pure awesomeness.

I agree that Orlando Bloom would be...nauseating.

I completely disagree. I cannot be immersed in a movie unless the characters from the media I know them from are as I imagine. With graphic novels there's no need to imagine because they've already drawn the character.

I've watched clips of the trailers and seen trailers on the big screen. Ledger doesn't seem anything like the joker. He's a grunge murderer rather than a psychotic super sane mass murdering clown. It just seems as though people don't want to criticise his being chosen as the actor because they don't like to speak ill of the dead. It's the casting directors fault, not Heaths. I never think of Nicholson when I think of The Joker. I think of The Joker. Nicolson is George Hanson, Colonel Nathan R. Jessep and Melvin Udall.

Ledgers joker's just too serious. He doesn't know how to have any fun while he's killing.

I think this is blatantly untrue, as everyone I know was stoked about Heath Ledger's performance even before he died. Remember, the first trailer came out before his death.

I totally understand not liking Heath's look as the Joker, because it isn't exactly like the graphic novel. I've given up on any film adaptation capturing its source material to a "T," though; all I ask for is a good interpretation, and for me, it looks like The Dark Knight will deliver in spades.

Go watch Iron Man then... That's almost perfect.
Except for missing Jarvis.
