So 7 months ago I registered for campus housing at my university for this Fall where I filled out an online personality test to determine who I am inclined to be compatible neighbors with, I guess, and placed as INTJ. I didn't know what an INTJ was at that time and frankly I didn't care because I don't think these personality tests have much value. But when 7 months have passed and you STILL have not been placed despite registering super early and the housing system being 'first-come, first-serve' you know something is wrong. That is when I looked up INTJ on the web and read wikipedia that INTJ make up 1 percent of the population. Duh.

I've lurked through these forums the last hour and I don't think I have a lot in common with most of ya'll despite the obvious inclination to introversion. For example I personally believe a lot of you are placing way too much of an importance on personal identification as an INTJ. However, this inclination towards introversion bonds us together and if there is anyone that I can talk to about subjects that I have wrestled for years about - Love, Freedom - it would probably be you guys.

I'll see ya'll in the main forums! And nice to meet you!

Welcome, Bats!

As far as placing too much of ones identity in the INTJ label, that is probably true for some here. I don't think that includes myself, but then I can't possibly be an objective judge on the matter. The act of frequenting this forum, of course, is almost certainly self-selecting to those who identify more strongly with the INTJ type. I'm sure there are many INTJs who don't care about MBTI, and they would likely not come here.

If you're sticking around, you can check out the rules here, and a great thread about using all the neat forum features is here.

Please, enjoy.

@RudyHenkel

Hey thanks. I'll stick around here at least for right now because I think a lot of people here are like me, unusual, but also not afraid to express themselves and be direct which is great!

I tell someone here at least once a week that some behavior or another isn't MBTI related but human related.

Most of us were just happy to find others of like mind who we can converse and debate with minus most of the drama and personal attacks that seem to be commonplace on other forums.

I suspect the "I" is correct but MBTI has a high "mistype" rate, especially the online versions and you probably mistyped. That would be my guess anyway.

Welcome and enjoy or don't as you choose.

What is the difference between MBTI related and human related? Don't understand you there. What does the "I" in "MBTI" mean?

"I" as in INTJ= introverted.

MBTI = Myers Briggs Type Indicator

Some emotions/behaviors are not because of someone's type. They are simply human behaviors/emotions that are found across all humanity not just those of the same type. You shouldn't get too caught up in type as it's helpful in relating to others (if you know their type) since you can learn about the type and tailor your responses to their way of thinking in order to get an idea across. It also explains why some people click and others don't but most of the time they're more "human" in nature than anything else and get blamed on "that's just my type" rather than "I'm me" or "I fucked up". Blaming everything on type is akin to not taking personal responsibility for your actions.

Well stated. Ones type is a fairly loose definition that gives one an initial way to define a person. In this way you have a good idea where to start. But as you get to know people you will invariably find that each is unique in their own way, and must be handled as such.

Hey, be welcome!

To be honest, when I got in this forum I was feeling the same thing as you in relation to over-emphasizing of the INTJ identity. However, after sometime I realised that there are a lot of differences between us, which is normal, of course. It is just impossible to put everyone here in same the boxes. Different experiences, different lessons learned.

Welcome BatsintheBelfry!

Perhaps a single room is in order in this instance. When I was at University I always had a single room. I did not want to bother with others in my space.

Welcome.
I also entirely agree that some people here place a little bit too much trust in MBTI types, sometimes almost to the point where it's a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of thing.

MBTI is useful in finding our natural inclination towards the four specified areas. It's not a sentence. We have the choice to develop any characteristic we wish in the purpose of self improvement. Ultimately, we each decide the type of person we will become, no matter which MBTI we use as a starting point.

Ummm.. did you just say.. "thang"? That's a little disturbing. Just because most INTJs, I've met, are so proper about their English.

Well, anyway.. welcome to the forum. There are actually more then just INTJs hanging out here. There are little ENFPs flitting about, and some INTPs, and the occasional ESFP... why there is just a plethuria of personalities if you look for them.

We are all drawn here, because for some reason, we adore these introverts.. just can't get enough of them.. and since they won't come out to play.... We have to come here to find them.
Hope you find your place in this little world.. it can be a cozy one, when you do.
