What did you think?

Help me get the point. This was my type of movie. Character driven drama with smart directing, acting, and story. I feel like I should have liked it more than I did.

Sam Mendes is a good director. Kate and Leo are fabulous actors. I might rank them #1 each in best male and female actors of today.

The story was meaty. But I was just left with a blah at the end. Depressing and hopeless for just the sake of being depressing and hopeless.

The psychotic math professor guy was a great character. Also I liked how the neighbor in the car took like 20 seconds to get the job done.

I was lost emotionally throughout the movie. It played out a lot like my life. It was hard to be objective about it at the time. I'll watch it again & let you know what I think...

and Winslet. You have to know Douglas Sirk to truly appreciate good melodrama. It always ends in a downer way. It's a genre picture and that's probably why you didn't like it. Like horror movies - they can have top notch actors and director but it's still a horror movie.

I think Winslet has it in her contract that she must be naked in every movie. Not that I'm against it necessarily but it's a little weird that it has to be in every movie. I think her biggest gimmick is the oft mentioned idea that she's less than "perfect" or bigger than the normal starlet. The press is always talking about this and I believe that she and her manager love this. She's far from average in weight or looks. She looks like a movie star to me always but it's a good shtick. Something everyone always talks about - free publicity.

Anyway, watch some Sirk and you'll get the idea - it's a genre picture.
