A colleague of mine rode this:

from Northern California to Deadhorse, Alaska. This seemed like a fun trip. My dream trip would be to start at Deadhorse and ride to Ushuaia, Argentina. There might be a ferry trip or two around some areas it's probably not wise to be American and alone with a motorcycle, but it's a doable ride of a lifetime. Iron Butts has some intense coast to coast rides as well. Baja 1000?

What trips have you taken? Want to take? Your ultimate ride? What bike are you riding now, or want to ride?

I've always wanted to do a trip down the PanAm Highway. Start in Fairbanks and go to Ushuaia. Mind you, I'd love to do this either on a motorcycle or by car...just to do the trip would be amazing.

I used to have a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 in college and until it got totaled. We did a spring break ride from Jacksonville, FL to Ozark National Forest in Arkansas, taking backroads the entire way. It was very pleasant ride.

My favorite summertime quick ride though has always been the Blue Ridge Parkway. On a motorcycle, the curves and view are just absolutely amazing. And it can certainly be done in sections (like hiking the AT).

Thanks for posting that! It seems like such an incredible ride. I might skip directly from Panama to Ecuador, avoiding Columbia and the Darien Gap. Siberia to Scotland or Scandinavia would be amazing, but potentially more dangerous than the American trek.

I would imagine a ride through the Rockies during the summer months would be amazing. I have a lot of fun just driving my car around Wyoming and Colorado, can't imagine how awesome it would be on a motorcycle.

I want to arrange a snowmobile caravan across the Bering Strait in March sometime. Like Nome to Anadyr' and then continue on to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy. I don't think the Russian authorities would appreciate it though. Fuel would be a big issue too.

The North Slope is beautiful but Deadhorse is a complete dump.

There are lots of reindeer, musk oxen, and bored polar bears though.

The Brook's Range is definitely the highlight of the Deadhorse to Fairbanks segment. I went in early September and it snowed a few times on the N. Slope.

We have a Suzuki 800 currently, but have owned various bikes over the years including BMW 1200, Vulcan 1500 - mostly big cruisers or tourers. Now belong to the Ulysses Club - you have to be 50 or over to be a full member, but at age 40 you can be a junior member. They have the most amazing social rides from a day to weeks. Cruising Tasmania, the Snowy Mountains ( in summer). Up the Whitsundays.
Really, its the journey - not the destination

Ridden to the Scottish Highlands a couple of times in the last few years, also to France/Spain, Belgium, I prefer to ride alone and use my tent. Some of those Alaska rides look good.

I've driven the AlCan twice. Some of that road is pretty rough, if you can even call it road. I plan on doing a Vespa Cannonball Run from Augusta to San Diego in April. Should be fun.
