HAY Guys! Seeing as how the only fighting game thread I could find was from 2010, Here's a new one!

SO what fighting games do you guys play? Do you guys watch the streams? Are you a monster with M. Bison? Get Bodied by B. Jenet? What does 236236PPP mean to you? Try to guess the types of your favorite fighting games characters! DISCUSSIONS!

I'm primarily a Virtua Fighter player but I also play King of fighters, Street Fighter (though I haven't touched AE2012) and Mortal Kombat 9 among other blasts from the past.

I haven't played any in a long time, but I liked the Tekken games the best. I usually played Paul Phoenix.

I'm not sure why Ryu gets lumped with INTJ so often. Why not ISTP/J? Perhaps there's some back story to his character i've never come across or something.

Eh, I dunno. I can see ISTJ with his whole training/finding the strongest opponent thing but hey you never see him with a girl (Chun-li has expressed a thing for white guys) and he rebels against shoes. That's so INTJ.

I played Bryan Fury a little as well. He was the only one besides Paul Phoenix. I have not paid too much attention to Tekken Tag 2. I'm generally not a fan of "tag tournament" games in general, probably because I like to stick to a single character.

I haven't really been into fighting games since my local arcade closed over a decade ago. I think the last games I was into was Tekken Tag Tournament and whatever the latest King of Fighters was at the time. I tried getting back into Street Fighter with the release of IV, but it's just not the same when sitting at home playing a random opponent online. Having said that, I did watch a lot of the Evo 2012 stream for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I couldn't follow half of what was going on.

Marvel is a lot more fun to watch than play. So much death flying all over the place and cheap stuff by the truckload! Either way, finals went down to the last jab. Very exciting.

Indeed. It was so good, I played it until I unlocked EVERYTHING there is to unlock.

I also like Mortal Kombat games.

I play Blazblue and Marvel vs Capcom. :x
Persona 4: Ultimate arena just came out, but it's based off an RPG where I typed all the characters.

One is an INTJ, she has some transgender thing going on in it though.

I played Killer Instinct a little when it first came out, too. I usually used Sabrewulf. I never could get the longer combos down, though.

I could not get the controls down in MK games. They were not very intuitive for me after playing other games. That kept me from enjoying MK.

It's a fighting game. All you have to do is mash some buttons to make awesome stuff happen. Only an obsessed person will bother learning a 30 button combo.

I only recently got into fighting games, because my ENTP friend taught me the basics of Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition.

I play as Gouken! I like his zoning abilities.

As for the streams, I like watching Streetfighter, Marvel vs Capcom and King of Fighters. I watched a few matches of EVO 2012 and I liked a lot!

I've been out of it for a while, but I've had the most fun with the following games:

Street Fighter II
WWF No Mercy (Wrestling counts as fighting, right?)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (I despised Brawl)
Soul Calibur II
Soul Calibur IV
Street Fighter IV (I didn't play it long)

I always thought he was an INFP. He's quiet, philosophical at times, and always driven to do "what's right".

I liked all those Streetfighter games of my childhood. I never like Mortal Kombat or Tekken or any of that shit.

I could whoop anybody's ass in StreetFighter II Turbo.

Rare fact about Chameleon: Grandmaster Heihachi Mishima player...

Also, SSBM: Most people cannot beat my Jiggly Puff; if they can, Mario; if they can beat Mario; I pull out Marth, and that settles it...I guess I should mention, a memory card with 3,000+ gaming hours...sad I know...

From your experience, which character would you describe as the best overall? I'd have to go with Fox and Marth. It's almost unfair how strong they are.

Fox can be quite insane in the right hands...but, Marth is a God among insects.

Characters I used to play were almost always female:

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (3)
-Psylocke
-Storm
-Cammy
-Morrigan

Darkstalkers
-Morrigan

Street Fighter
-Cammy
-Ibuki (not so good with her)
-Chun Li, I rarely used because she was too 'popular' and I was anti popular.

I never really got into those 3D games.

Marvel is a lot more fun to watch than play.

I can understand how someone who has not been initiated with the game can find it to be a clusterfuck buttonmash fest. But when you get the basic mechanics of the game down and some practice, you'll be very intrigued by the seemingly infinite number of combinations you can do with the character permutations.

I think Capcom just wanted to out a game (MvC2) that has the previous characters from the first game (MvC1) and added some new ones, and then added some new basic gameplay mechanics to make it more interesting. This tactic is actually nothing new.

MvC2 had many many glitches and bugs that the players discovered and were able to exploit to the point of bringing the game to whole new level of play. Interestingly enough, sometimes these bugs and glitches created new or perhaps even unintended gameplay mechanics that only affected certain characters in such a way as to make these characters immensely unbalanced and have extreme advantages over most other characters. This in turn resulted in a list of about 7 to 10 characters being considered as "Top Tier." These are the characters you most often see being used at tournaments, yes Tournaments; National Tournaments.

Namely:

-Magneto
-Storm
-Spiral
-Sentinel
-Dr. Doom + Strider (pairing)
-Iron Man
-Cable

Admittedly, I don't know much about Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. It does seem to have the previous game mechanics as its predecessor. I don't know if it has the same quirkyness as 2.
