I have poor social/ communication skills and a hard time enunciating words (people constantly say things like "what?" "do what" "pardon me?", etc) and I'm just sick of it.
So as I'm registering for classes this fall, I'm considering taking a class in "Creative Improvisation" which is once a week. I'm hoping it will help me significantly with my communication abilities and overall body awareness. What do you think? Can this type of class help? Anybody with similar experiences and/ or challenges? |

Creative improvisation is a right-brained activity that would be recommended for people struggling with what to say as opposed to how to say it. |

I have taken a Dale Carnegie course (6-8 weeks, something like that). It helped me with getting my idea out quickly. It also helped me with how to be more animated when presenting information. It is all about keeping your audience attention.

I joined Toastmasters about a year ago. It's helped. You get time to improvise for a minute or two, and you get tips on talking.

I've done Toastmasters and improv comedy. I would go with improv.
You will get way more talk time in an improv class of 5 - 10 than a TM meeting. You will get to use your body in far more dynamic ways, and you will learn to think on your feet. I don't know if overthinking is a problem, but improv will help you with that. TM is great if you want to work on your business presentations, improv is great if you want to have more fun and playfulness in conversation. I would take improv over TM. |
