I have a hypothesis.

Do you think it's possible you could have a situation where an asexual started masturbating out of boredom and only continued out of habit, as opposed to any kind of natural inclination?

If they're asexual why would they be masturbating in the first place? Would you watch gay porn out of boredom?

Hypothetically they could have accidentally stimulated themself, and explored that stimulation to orgasm, and associated self stimulation to orgasm. Then they could have fallen into the habit of addiction, and all without being attracted or excited by any gender of person.

Absence of sexual attraction does not necessarily equate to absence on inclination to masturbate.

I speculate it's plausible.

Some may masturbate as a solitary form of release, while others do not feel a need to do so.[5] The need or desire for masturbation is commonly referred to as a "sex drive" and is disassociated from sexual attraction and being sexual; asexuals who masturbate generally consider it to be a normal product of the human body and not a sign of latent sexuality, and may not even find it pleasurable.[6] Some asexual men are completely unable to get an erection and sexual activity is completely impossible for them.[17] Asexuals also differ in their feelings towards performing sex acts: some are indifferent and may even have sex for the benefit of a romantic partner, while others are more strongly averse to the idea even though they do not necessarily dislike other people for having sex as long as it does not involve them.[6][18]

So apparently you're right.

I have almost no "sex drive", or a very, very weak one, but I can feel sexual attraction. Whether this puts me into asexual territory or not, I have no idea. I certainly do have some asexual traits.

I'm like a person who doesn't have to eat. I never feel hungry, my stomach never growls or aches because of a lack of food. I can go for years, or my entire life, without eating, and still be perfectly happy and healthy. That does not mean, however, that I can't enjoy some nice chocolate just for the taste of it, or even have the appetite for it. Appetite, but not hunger.

I guess you could call that eating out of boredom.

For what it's worth, this changes somewhat when I'm in love with someone. Demisexuality and all that.

Whether or not an asexual would masturbate in the first place , is the asexual doing it *out of boredom*? Is that act of wanting to release/relieve/de-stress done *out of boredom*?

Agreed. I'm just waiting for CrudeHypothesis' next thread: "Do you think it would be better or worse to go down on someone with Down Syndrome?"

Right. Kids start masturbating long before they're sexually attracted to anyone.

Wouldn't it be like I'd go out jogging just to gain endorphins into my blood stream? Not gonna happen.

Oooh, I promise to do it for a good cause like that tomorrow. I'd do it today, but I've had enough, so I'm sorry but I have to let you all down.

To the best of my knowledge (as supplied by sources that shal remain unamed) asexuality and stimulation of the sex organs are not neccesarily mutually exclusive, but tends to be more of a pain in the ass (no pun intended) than its worth unless you are inordinately sensitive. Odd as it may seem to us sexual types, many asexual people in fact do choose to regularly engage in copulatory intercorse with a partner for the same reason that, say, an INTJ who finds overt PDA unappealing might none the less enjoy feeling physically close to their loved ones, and enjoy seeing the smile on someone's face when they get a hug in a public place.

That said, most asexual people do have more difficulty inducing stimulation of the genitals because it is much more difficult to get themselves "in the mood" (provided that you exclude individuals for whom a sexual response to non anthropomorphic psychological stimuli is readily accessible, but apparently this topic is a point of contention even among asexuals). I am told that often times when a male asexual wishes to engage in such activities for instance, he may need to employ the use of devices that stimulate the prostate, and that the process is viewed in much the same light that you might view a colonoscopy. It can be a very clinical, personal, and embarrassing experience for an individual of that particular disposition, but something they consider to be an important part of maintaining their physical health (seriously, regular orgasms aren't just for fun, they actually do help to significantly reduce stress levels and keep your hormones well balanced).

The only reason that we conflate sexual attraction and sexual stimulation is because they are thematically related in our minds. There may very well be a psychological dimension to sexual stimulation, so its not like that thematic association is entirely devoid of sexual influence, but there is nothing fundamentally "natural" about the fact that we like to put sexual stimulation and sexual attraction in the same box in out brain.

How can you have an opinion with validity if you just started on these boards this month?

Also, the answer to that question is better.

I think bored sex in general is pretty common.

No, that hypothesis doesn't make any sense. Someone with a weak sex drive could definitely masturbate out of boredom although someone who was asexual wouldn't have any need to masturbate since they wouldn't find any enjoyment from doing so(Or would they?).
