I am not in a position to take a lot of time off for work but am craving to just get up and go somewhere this weekend. I could probably head out on a Friday afternoon and return Sunday.

Anyone have weekend getaway ideas? How do you get the most out of a weekend without feeling rushed to have a "good time" but still feel like you're having a valuable experience?

Thanks.

I am at the moment writing a lengthy indictment against our century. When my brain begins to reel from my literary labors, I make an occasional cheese dip.

Really depends where you live and what you're budget is like.

Camping is a good one - there are usually camping places close and it's pretty cheap. Also a very relaxing way to spend the weekend. Might be a bit hot to do right now, though.

Don't look past your own town. Check into a nice hotel for the weekend in a cool area of town you don't get time to see often. Does it really matter you only live 10 minutes away? Since you don't have to spend money on travel, you can use that to treat yourself to a nice dinner or tickets to a show.

As far as not feeling rushed, I try not to put too much on plate when traveling. For a weekend trip, I'd pick out maybe one thing I really really want to do. The rest of the time is left to my fancy at the moment.

I agree and disagree with Storm. For instance, if you live in Little Rock, Arkansas you'd want to get out! Memphis, TN is only two hours from Little Rock, and Austin, TX is 7.5 hours away.

I'm a Floridian, so I'm a fish out of water. I love the ocean, so I'd recommend a boat trip. Like Storm said, it depends on your budget. For me, I'd fly back home(where I call) to south Florida, stay at my friends vacant beach condo, and hit the beach. Then dine out and enjoy the spoils south Florida has to offer.

Plan & research! How odd for an INTJ to offer this as advice, however it depends on what you want to do. Relax by the pool? Go skiing, Have a great night at a pub, or maybe a show. Site seeing natures great wonders?
Spend the weekend at a winery. or several.
Learn something - maybe a cooking weekend. So much to do and so little time

Try a nudist colony. Most rent trailers, cabins or other accommodations. You can also bring your own (tent or whatever).

Depends on where you live and what's close. I live by both the ocean and the mountains and have Canada 2hrs away to the North and Portland 2hrs to the South so I tend to drive to Vancouver for the weekend or take the ferry to Victoria.

Usually there's some sort of cool little town within a couple of hours of anywhere where you can go spend the weekend exploring.

Also camping or backpacking is a great way to get away for cheap.
