Is it something descended from chivalrous society?
Is it truly "inherently" wrong to attack a weaker person? Can a stronger man attack a weaker man in that case? |

It's wrong to put your hands on anyone for any reason except self-defense or defending someone who can't defend themselves. Don't hit people.

Is this just modern morality, or some "absolute"? |

Why attack anyone? Deal with your issues, do your work. Leave others alone. The more you put it on them, the more you have to deal with in the end.
If you are feeling threatened, I would recommend reaching out to people you trust rather than reacting to your anxieties. |

Stronger person attacking weaker person better have a damn good reason or is an asshole. Or ready to be a criminal. Or both.
Women have usually been seen as the weaker sex. Title IV is catching up, though; once gender stereotypes have as well, women like Sarah Robles will let you know exactly why hitting other people, regardless of gender or size, is a damn stupid idea. That is: skill is not visible. |

Obviously it's not an absolute universal thing. Are you familiar with the "rule of thumb?" |

Better to ask why we do things rather than why we shouldn't do them.

Pardon, I wasn't attacking you. I was expressing my opinion that "attacking women = attacking". Even though it happens frequently, it's unnecessary. If anyone attacks another, it's due to their inability to effectively deal with an issue they are having. Yes it is common, but not constructive to anyone involved. |

You can do whatever you want.
You can go around hitting women until your knuckles bleed. But others can do whatever they want, and some other people will want to stop you. It's a cultural thing. In Viking times they used to walk around with an axe in their hand, because you could get jumped at any time. The women used to carry a small knife, a sax, specifically for defence against rape. Now it's, we have to get along so here are the rules, if you don't want to follow them keep moving out to the fringes of society until it's culturally acceptable to do what you want to do, but even then someone will come and get you it just may take longer, hey Osama. |

To clarify..
If you are a man.. why hit a woman? Why hit a child? Why hit another full grown man? When you are frustrated, and have a physical upper-hand, why hit anyone in reaching distance? Why?? Because you're pissed and you can. I recommend restraint, for all. Deal with your issues as best you can and ask for support if you need to. |

Generally the use of violence in the manner you have listed is used when there is a disagreeance.
Just because you can back up your opinion, idea, or want, with violence dosen't make it any more sound or logical. I could state that the sun is blue not orange or yellow, and kill any who apposes me. This is kind of one of the reasons why violence and the use of it is seen as unacceptable in terms of resolving arguments. |

My answer boils down to self-defence.
Anyone can attack anybody regardless of gender, but mostly I am of the opinion that such action can only be justified morally. We're talking about the physical aspect, aren't we people? I think it's just wrong to physically attack someone who didn't lay a finger on you. |

Like some others have said, or hinted at, woman are generally less muscular overall. I don't know how true that is now, but there's probably some genetics to it. Hitting someone who is physically weaker than you is generally considered bullying. Ergo, male hitting female = bad.
However, if you really want to get into the base morality of it all, no one should really be hitting anyone outside of: Training, Self-defense, or Combat (e.g. war, which is sometimes a form of self-defense). None of these are gender relevant. In the case of something like a bar fight, not hitting women likely goes back to chivalry's popularity and could also be based in the fact that women are the ones who can reproduce, and are therefore more "precious" or "fragile" than men in terms of physical harm. |

It's wrong to hit a defenseless innocent. If a woman is about to slap you because she thinks you won't respond, feel free to twist her arm off.
