Do you have a good memory? How good are you with details(concrete)? How good are you at remembering a tasks or methods that should be executed in a sequential manner (methodical tasks)?
To those who have answered the above, how good are you at Math (Advanced\University level Math) and how good are you at Accounting? what do you think of Accounting? Do you think your memory capacity or lack thereof has something to do with your psychological preferences as indicated by your mbti type? Looking forward to your replies.

As such my memory is pretty good with things I focus on (Detail oriented and Methodical)
However I have a tendency not to pay attention to people when they tell me do something orally as they tend to repeat it too many times or are not concise and to the point This is most probably due to my personality which causes me to be somewhat detached from the world Also I tend to remember things better if there is a pattern to follow or if the things are interrelated to one another As for university level math, I tend to understand the concepts faster than most of my classmates I really haven't had that much experience with accounting to form a valid opinion |

Yes.
Very. Depends whether or not I value or have interest in the task or tasks at hand. I'm usually terrible at math as I've found anything above the level of long division pointless for everyday use. Perhaps it's just mental laziness. When I get bored and play with numbers, I'm exceptional at it. Yes. Being someone with selective memory, I do believe my preference has a major impact on my memory. Examples: In 5th grade I've memorized about 1/3 of the Declaration of Independence for a project, which is nothing impressive. It was simply another thing I had to do in order to complete a task. In 7th grade, I was interested in science and as such, memorized the entire periodic table of elements and its atomic data. I find that I've no problem with memory games at levels in which most people seem to struggle. I also remember my 3rd birthday, although vague. After being intoxicated, I remember just about every detail of being intoxicated. I also seem to subliminally remember what I hear after I pass out. |

I tend to have a pretty good memory, particularly when it's something I actively mean to remember. My memory isn't better than anyone else's to an extreme degree, but I like to play trivia games and such that require me to use it, so I think that probably helps a bit.
Mental math is something I'm really great at, but once again that's through practice more than anything else. Math in general, I'm pretty good at, though I didn't pursue it any more than I had to in school so I don't know how I would have done in the really high-level courses. |

If I'm interested, then yes. Freakishly so.
If I do something often enough also yes, but maybe with a few hazy spots. Otherwise we're talking goldfish level memory - like a sieve holds water. I did at one point keep a diary/notepad with things I was supposed to remember, but I stopped because it was a pain to keep up to date, and more importantly I kept forgetting I had said book thus rendering the entire exercise an utterly pointless waste of time. |

Thank you for all your responses, its certainly more than I expected. I am liking this forum already.
The reason for the question is because I beleive that a person with an intj preference has a tendency to want to abstract and create conceptual systems based on their experiences\observations, as such, they are not really interested in concrete particulars\details which they discard\dismiss as being mere contingent. Hence a need to detect underlying repeating patterns rather than focus on particulars. Hence they do not remember concrete details since concrete details are not as import as understanding the abstract system or pattern behind the phenomena. I have noticed that I get very impatient and irritable when I have to do deal with details and particulars, especially when I cannot see the bigger picture and discern the why behind all of it. Everything must fit in a system and I must understand the system from the top down. I think I should have rephrased the question to, Do you have a good memory for details? [fixed]

It depends on what I am trying to remember.
I have detailed memories of certain mundane things I did many years ago, and I remember random facts I read about. In other cases, I forget about details, especially when I don't care. |

My memory is absolute shit, which is why I have to erect systems to automate so many tasks. If I had to rely on my memory of what should be done, I'd often become lost.
Math, with all the formulae, came easy. I just came off of a shipping clerk position. By far the most unsuitable job I've ever had. |

Depends if I'm interested or not.
As far as math goes, I'm pretty good at mental math. As long as I can remember, I've just played with numbers inside my head. |

I have good memory for details and recognize patterns quickly. Seeing the big picture usually comes easily.
As far as Math goes, I'm no wizard, although I enjoy playing with numbers and loved doing payrolls. Remembering birthdays, dates of certain events, telephone numbers, etc., are no problem. |

This is simply a personal account of my own experiences with memory. . .
My memory is weird. Things in my head exist which I am not able to grasp intentionally. That is, I recall facts which I did not know I knew. It is only until the moment immediately after I recall certain facts that I am also able to recall where these facts originated from. Sometimes I simultaneously see both at once. For example, I remember a list of people who contributed substantially to Wikipedia whilst also remembering the list as it appeared on my computer screen. The unfortunate part is that, since I was not extremely intrigued by this event of research, I did not cling to anything of significance (that I know of). The only thing which I found of interest is the fact that there was a professor from Africa who was a substantial contributor to Wikipedia despite the living conditions that surrounded him. When I try to intentionally plunge into my memories, it is a rather bizarre experience. I experience things ranging from seeing a supposed bust of Socrates and hearing Vivaldi's Winter to seeing Lil Wayne attempting to rap and hearing Get Low by Lil Jon. My memories are like an ocean of nearly solid concrete with no apparent pattern in texture. I believe qualifying my memory with a qualifier such as good or bad just doesn't work. Feel free to do so yourself. |

My memory is not superiour at all. Though I do consider myself to have a more sharpened memory than the average man as I can recall facts, dates and odd details when discussing which others can not. People also tend to state that I have a good memory for details.
About one year ago my teacher handed out several math assignments to my fellow students, but since I was not taking part in mathematics class at the time she asked me if I wanted to leave or take the test just for fun. She gave me an A and I was totally unprepared when participating. My mental math is something that has always been quite good. Just as Memorizer did I tried to remember as many decimals in pi as possible and within five minutes of memorizing I could call to mind 30 decimals. As far as your question about correlation between MBTI and memory goes, I have no idea. |

Facts coming in are quickly attacked, dismantled, analyzed, placed back together, and spit out; and only the generalized remnants remain. No I do not remember things as they first appeared to me; but I can tell you how I understand them.

If we consider conventional memory, which I'll here define as the ability to directly (as opposed to, say, remembrance by association/connection) recall specific images or symbols, then I can safely say that mine is absolutely abominable. And certainly this is a function of my completely dominant Ni preference (read: total lack of Si in all respects). |

My memory seems to be very selective in this regard. I've always had the ability to read something once or twice and remember it well enough to get the job done, without actually having to think or study. However, if I am interested in the subject matter my memory is nearly photographic; I'll remember every single line and scene in order from a movie I like after only watching it once; but give me a subject I don't care about and I'll only half ass the work.
Math falls into that category, I'm actually not incapable of doing difficult math, I just don't care about it at all so I generally avoid expending energy on it. |

I'm really good at remembering numbers for some reason. Often times I will consciously forget a telephone number, but guess and get it 100% correct. It happens so often that this form of 'guessing' I witness must be some form of subconscious recall.

My memory's not consistent. Trip it and there's a spectrum of recall.

Both my memory and math skills pretty much suck. I'd say I'm capable of being quite detail-oriented, but with long-term memory I mostly only remember general concepts. I also can't form visual mental images worth shit. The fact that I'm almost never sober surely doesn't help either ^_^
I made it through AP Calc. and Stats in high school, but never took any math or accounting in college. I only remember basic stuff like geometry/trig and algebra. |

I hate memorization, but I can do it if I have to. I'm decent at math, but it didn't come especially easy for me.

I've a good memory in general. Details are clear for me depending on the subject and my level of interest. I don't have an eidetic memory, but I can clearly remember conversations and quote them back at people when necessary.
I'm decent enough at maths, but not amazing. I never really focused on it much in school. |

I have a good memory for certain things. For example, I remember what I have said for a long time. I remember information which is interesting to me. I remember useful things. But sometimes I tend to see the 'big' picture, the main thing, the essence. Once I figure out a difficult subject, I remember it for life. So, yes, my memory is quite good.

It depends. At work I have a great detailed memory that awes my coworkers. I work on an enterprise software project and I can see a lot of the code in my head. When people want to know how something works they just ask me instead of looking it up for themselves.
I have to agree with the previous posters that said it helps to find something interesting. My default memory mode definitely is not long term. I can watch a typical movie and be unable to explain the basic plot a day later. I can take a day off of work and a few weeks later not remember why. |

Well currently I'm in college studying engineering. I have always had a strong memory of facts and words. I can sit in a lecture and memorize probably everything my professor said. I feel like when I listen I have a tendency to store facts and ideas by breaking them down into their most simple forms and they instantly go to my long term memory. Also for some strange reason, I remember the most random facts without trying. I have a bunch of useless knowledge in my head from just reading random things years ago. In addition, I also can still remember almost everything from my AP US History class...
The ironic thing is that despite being able to memorize all sorts of ideas, facts, etc. I have almost no sense of direction and can manage to get lost in my home town. Thank God for GPS! |
