Can someone explain to me what you all mean when you say non-fiction?
Do you mean biographies, text books, philosophy? Or do you mean popular science or social science books like Dawkins, or Steven Jay Gould's non academic books; and popular historical or political books that are narrative non-fiction? For myself I read a mixture of fiction and non-fiction: I have to read a lot for school, say 2-3 novels, 2-3 book length works of literary criticism and between 5 and ten articles a week, so when I have free time I tend to read Science Fiction as a way to relax. When I'm not in school, I probably read more fiction than non-fiction on the whole - my non-fiction reading tends to be philosophy, and both theoretical and practical books on architecture, environmental topics such as ecology etc, planning and human geography. |

Depends. I read mostly fiction, but I read non-fiction if the subject interests me. Or is necessary. Whatever.

I read both fiction and non-fiction. But lately I have been fixated on educational books.

non-fiction, training manuals, textbooks, and I prefer movies based on a true story. I'm pretty one dimensional.

Non-fiction books. Anything that really has practical application and I can use to further my life, that's what I read.
Fiction stuff, I play video games now and then for that. Read the occasional novel here & there. |

Nonfiction, mostly. I used to read true crime novels almost exclusively, but now that I've graduated college and am not required to learn anything, I've become interested in reading about a variety of topics, mostly in a historical context (learning the origins of things is especially fascinating to me - traditions, ceremonies, ideas, beliefs, etc.).
I still read fiction occasionally just to give myself a little break. But it's been a while since I've found any fiction worth reading, or at least any fiction that sounds more interesting than the nonfiction I plan to read. |

Generally fiction, purely on the basis that my favorite books have all been fiction. However, if it is subject matter that I find interesting I'll enjoy it much more if it is non-fiction (such as books on robotics, electronics, mechanics, or martial arts).

Mostly non-fiction. I don't usually go out to read fiction myself. If RPG counts (technically being fiction, except that it's not necessarily in the book format), then I do occasionally look into fiction.

I read non fiction because its interesting and fiction to be entertained. Too much of one (maybe 2 books) makes me want to read the other. |

Both, but non-fiction seems to have absorbed me these days.

Can't stand fiction. (However, I did enjoy Alice in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass). I prefer educational scientific, nature, nutrition, or health reference books. I'd rather read the dictionary than a romance novel.

I generally like one as much as I do the other. It just depends what I'm in the mood for.

My preferences are less extreme, but the actuality is I read far more fiction than nonfiction

I end up reading a lot of non-fiction for lack of anything better. I can't say how many so called good modern novels I've picked up and read twenty pages and then used it for fire starter. I end up reading classic fiction, I burn less books that way and it's cheaper, besides, the older books have pages that burn better.
