I haven't seen any documentaries/nature channel snippets on lava for years, so it was great fun watching this:

And check out the shapes and patterns at the top left rising to the surface around 0:30 to 0:45. Fascinating. Anyone else have links to any cool lava videos or perhaps interesting knowledge about this beyond what one might find in wikipedia? |

Lava. Yea lava is cool. Well not really cool, it's hot. Yea, hot in every sense. I like lava. Lava is orange and glowy. Lave is nerdy though. I don't want to be a nerd, but I like lava. So I must be a bit nerdy.

Lava is really cool, just the fact that it's molten rock, and makes up much of what is directly beneath our feet. I've seen videos of areas in Hawaii where lava flows obstructing traffic are not uncommon. If we were somehow able to reliably harness lava, we could create endless steam-based power...maybe we've already done this. Dunno~

The most amazing thing about it to me is that it gives a sense of "realness" to temperatures that high. We hear about 5500 C and what not in terms of stellar temps and whatnot, but that's all very abstract. But molten rock at 1000 C? Yeah, it's not that hot by comparison, but when you realize that it's MELTED rock....that' HOT...and suddenly that 5500 C is brought into perspective.
