Tell someone you love him today, because life is short. But yell it loudly in German, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

I've also thought of 2 master's degrees. I'm almost done with an MBA and I've previously thought of a degree in predictive analytics. I'm instead thinking of just getting some technical certifications - less expensive, but still mentally stimulating.

Sometimes I've fleetingly regretted not just going for my Ph.D. instead of the second one; or better yet, getting both in one 'shabang' by joining a Ph.D. program right away wherein you earn a Masters along the way. And those European Ph.D.s are really my cup of tea--you just pretty much study on your own for a few years, with some guidance, and write a dissertation which they call a thesis--but a book, really. It has to be jaw-droppingly good, but that's the route I wd've liked going in retrospect. But I'm quite content with what I did do, too.

I can't imagine visiting all 50 states... "Hey everyone, I'm in North Dakota! It's very... flat... here".

True, true. And eastern Montana. One of the coolest things my wife & I did was buy a season pass for the National Parks. Since we took a year off work to see the states all at once, we ended up seeing most of them! It was incredible. We also got season passes to Six Flags and visited quite a few of those, too

I'm learning a computer programming language and consider it just as challenging as learning a foreign language.

I've heard many others make the same assessment, so I'm inclined to believe it. One caveat wd be that it is most like learning a dead language like Latin or learning a much changed ancient language like classical Greek, b/c you don't have to pronounce it perfectly (no one really knows the correct way), just read & write.

Having goals that revolve around our biological programming like becoming a father has always made me suspicious. Are we truly exercising our freedom as human beings with doing what biology seems to command us to do? I try to make my goals as innovative and unique as possible and not biologically driven.

There is complete freedom. There is no command, just a drive.

Choosing to not be a parent can be a legitimate choice, I suppose, just like being a virgin for life can be, but in either case--biologically and emotionally programmed or not, to skip that endeavor means missing something fundamental to a maximally enriching human lifetime. It doesn't make one less human to miss one or the other, but there is a loss of potential rewards--albeit at some cost.

For a more banal example, there is a biologically-driven desire each of us has to taste good food. It isn't very innovative and unique, but I'll pick that over rice every day anyway

I realised quite early on that life is a game and most of the "work" we do is a complete waste of time in the grand scheme of things.

It's something I struggle with every day, I know what I do doesn't matter but like everyone else I was born into this system and do what I have to to survive within it. Luckily I enjoy it most of the time.

I relate to this. But want more at the same time.

It's like you've read my mind...

The most annoying thing about the "system" is it's so. damn. restricting.
It's pretty suffocating when I'm fighting for autonomy but the whole world is telling me lol no you need a degree :|

You should learn how to feel, stop evaluating life with pure logic, somehow connect with your soul and if you dont believe that you got one, believe it, you have one.

You are in my shoes...
