It just hit me one day, that I could start meditating?
Is there any actual use of that? What does it do to you? Share your thoughts. |

Control of your mind is control of your perception, and control of your perception is the closest you will ever come to control of your reality. Everything is filtered through the various layers of bullshit you have accumulated in your mind, preconceptions, memories, fears, emotions, prejudice, brain chemicals, pain, pleasure, etc all obfuscate the objective reality. Control over these things will help you with stress, success, peace, and relationships.
I've done alot of different types of meditations and I've reached some great states of mind. Different things work for different people, but IMO there are four levels of meditation. 1.) Is to focus on an object, sensation, or idea. Many use the breath. 2.) Is to clear the mind and focus on nothing, some call this no mind. 3.) I to delve into the mind and how it works, a way to get into it is to locate the difference between your perspective of existence and your thoughts. And from there you explore. 4.) Is to to explore your inner world or your Universe, some call this wakeful dreaming others call it astro projection. There are lots of ways to do this, but really you have to figure it out on your own. While this may sound similar to 3, it is quite different. That is how I understand it, I'm not sure if you will find anybody else that states it like that and it might just be me. There are lots of sites on the subject that will give you more in depth info. |

The only angle i can be bothered to give (because of forum search function/google etc), is that unless you're practising the integration of formal practice into daily life it's kinda missing the point. Any moment when not engaged in active thinking can be utilized, so when people say they don't have the time for it, what they're really saying is they don't actually understand it or how it works.

A: Yes, in general, anyone can meditate, and there are many different types to practice. It depends on what you'd like to achieve. Q: Is there any actual use of that? A: Yes, for instance Mindfulness meditation has been proven to be better at lowering stress levels and easing depression and anxiety symptoms. It is more effective than any single Western treatment alone. It works best in conjunction with therapy. Also, people who practice Mindfulness meditation score higher on emotional intelligence. Q: What does it do to you? A: Meditation, over long periods of time, can literally help you to "rewire" your brain - this is a bit of a misnomer, though, but your neural patterns will change slightly. People who meditate show greater activation in certain regions of the brain, and there is still debate over what this means. |

I meditate occasionally and inconsistently now, after doing it consistently for several months, within the year. |

I've been trying it in an attempt to reach a trance-like heightened state of intuition and awareness and the "vibrational state".

I find it (as a part of yoga) very useful for lowering my stress level, thus increasing productivity and energy level. I'm working toward being able to "snap into" that steady calmness during tense moments - not there yet, but it will be an awesome advantage once I am.
