Biomedical Technician. I service, calibrate, maintain, and repair all manner of medical devices. The job does suit me pretty well, I have little contact with other human beings other than customary introductions and I work with machines all day. I definitely feel more in touch with the machines than with the people I interact with so its a good fit.

I do wish I got paid as much as other people with my experience and position though, but I work for a very small company so we don't have the overhead for that.

I am a neonatal nurse and lactation counselor and also do couplet care (postpartum and infant combined). It fits me for the most part, although I am not as "rah, rah" about breastfeeding as some might wish.

I would like to be a writer. Actually, I would like to be a professional student, if someone could suggest how I might make a living at that. I am going to take a course in clinical neuroanatomy this fall, just for fun...and also to forget my frustrations in trying to befriend certain INTJs.

IT Consultant - various areas (Tech Writing, Tech Training, AppDev, AppSDLCSecurity, CloudSecurity,NetDesign, Ethical Hacking, etc.), but concentration in Security Engineering/Architecture

Have no college, but plenty of hands on experience. Love Technical Writing and streamlining processes along the way to make work easier on everybody.

Soon to enter the entrepreneurship area in full force... too many co-workers pushing me into it, so going thru the checklist of items to do to make it happen.

Nothing out of the ordinary for a NERDY INTJ Gal.

Congrats!! I've been a self-employed IT consultant for 7 years. It can be tough, especially since IT is a man's world. Not surprising, the majority of my clients have a woman deciding who provides IT support. Its also tough to find peers that are comfortable working with me. Its been 10 years since I've seen another female computer consultant. Guys seem a little intimidated to work with me, although I'm pretty good at it and am willing to share my knowledge.

Thank you. Congratulations to you for your success. As you said, it is a man's world and staying alive is highly competitive, but it must be an INTJ thing... I actually enjoy being in a man's only world, they are much more rational to me. [yikes, did I just said that... ooops]. Women in the field, especially the area I'm in are extremely rare in nature. I've seen a number come by and fail and/or give up after a while because the work load was more than they could handle, but there are selected few. Just yesterday I met a new assesor who will be joining my team, so now we are 2 ladies vs. 5 male counterparts.

In our field, you will find that whenever there is another women there is always competition among them, I'm not that type, but I've seen it. I think most men feel intimidated by our presense because we tend to be a much more competitive and excel at other areas they are not fully familiar with. My strenght has always been turning things around to be more efficient and covering areas most men have yet to cover. I haven't had many man intimidated by me, they seem eager to see me join their teams. I'm the go getter type at work and love saying it like it is, sometimes it backfires, othertimes it works, but at the end of the day they put up with me. I'm all about sharing knowledge, and I've always end up building a SharePoint site for the team just for that purpose. Anyway, thx. Maybe we can chat more later.

I manage a group of engineers and analysts in the development department of a large technology company. It's interesting because I get to see a variety of technology, some of which makes it into "production" and some that doesn't. It's a good place to introduce new ideas about technology and processes, but also grounded enough in the business aspects of things that you can see the practical impacts of your ideas.

Anesthesia Technician. The job itself is cool, but the people i work with suck, they are really lazy and delegate all the duties to me. I hate to be told what to do, by someone who isnt willing to do it them selves.

I'm curious as to how many INTJ's work in fields that align with our personalities. I do. I'm a freelance writer who works out of my home. I get to interview some of the smartest people in the world, and it's usually the only social interaction I need aside from my husband and people I run into at the gym.

What do you do... and does it fit your personality? If not, what would you rather be doing?

My job gives me the same freedom as yours, it also forces me to interact with intelligent people. I am my own boss, I work when i feel like working. Playing poker is the perfect job for me. And the best part about it is that I can travel a lot, to tournaments and casinos or wherever I want.

Document controller. Very little human interaction, just make things tidy and keep order. Suits me, though a touch boring.

Physician.

It's a career that simultaneously does and doesn't suit me. I think that NT types make very good physicians, because one needs to think critically about a patient's various issues and also see how they fit together in order to make reach the correct diagnosis and form a good plan.

The interpersonal aspect is very difficult, however. There are constant interruptions in my day, and they all happen because someone wants or needs something from me. It is very draining to so frequently interact with people who are under immense emotional stress. Also, all of the ESFJ nurses make me want to scream.

Let's see...my resume is about 12 pages long...well, no, that's an exaggeration, it's only 11.5 pages.
- Assistant Technical Director for a college theater, mostly running sound for whoever leases the theater
- Part Time Instructor of Electricity & Electronics (same college)
- Part Time Broadcast Engineer/Audio Engineer at a Public Television Station
- Working on a voice-over career
- Studying computer network security

Do these things suit me? Each of them have some component that does, and some that don't.

By the time I'm bored with one, I usually get called to do one of the others. Unfortunately, none of them pay enough by themselves.

I have discovered, however, a trick to caring about irrelevant details. Engineers generally don't do things without a reason, so the trick is to realize that some inefficiencies are there for a reason. I could easily build a set of shelves with CDX plywood that is perfect for the garage, but my wife would never accept that level of appearance for the living room, for instance. So appearance is a requirement. Similar items occur in all the other tasks I do.

I agree with the Professional Student occupation. When you find out how to make that a career, please let the rest of us in on it.

I'm also a work-from-home freelance writer. I also do some editing on the side.

It works great. I seem to have a limited amount of "people time" that I can stand before getting exhausted, and if I was working in an office it would all get used up on that and not leave any for doing fun stuff.

Lots of engineers and writers on here. Very interesting. I suppose both 'construct' things, albeit with different building blocks. Myself? I'm an intel/criminal analyst hopeful. Currently in the field interning, but not as a career yet.

Finance Director, I get to set strategy and enjoy building people systems and streamlining operations. I have to deal with hundreds of people though which I find very tiring.

I would love to be a musician, or an expert in a really obscure field such as rare moths or better still the rare moth expert who plays guitar lol. Maybe I just need a career break.

I'm an Architect and Urban planner, working in a very quiet place, which allows me to focus on my projects. I've worked in much more loud and crowded places and I entered in a depressive state of mind - I just couldn't do it.

I was very interested in becoming an equine vet. This was after a bachelor's in Comp Science and 10 years in the field. Solving problems for horses and improving the quality of their lives sounded wonderful. Dealing with abused and neglected horses, not so great. I would've ended up arrested pretty quick. Abused and neglected computers make for a wonderful career though!

Wouldn't trade my INTJ ob/gyn for anything (funny how we can "see" another intj at work, 'eh?). She "discovered" the lump in my breast that lead to an early diagnosis of breast cancer. Then, two years later, she took over from a nurse when I was in labor because things started to go bad. Of course my daughter and I ended up just fine. I found my doctor's calm confidence very soothing.

You have my condolences with the nurses. Being among a room full of women wears me out. And I am a woman.

BTW, while I was working on my Biochemistry degree, people kept asking me why I wasn't pre-med when I was acing all the pre-med weeder courses. I kept telling them "Because I don't want to be a doctor.", but they didn't seem to think that was a good reason. Or possibly they didn't understand that someone might want to study molecular biology because they found it fascinating, rather than because they needed to in order to get into medical school.

As a biology undergrad student, I get that a lot too - no interest in being a doctor!
I'm working as an assistant in a biochemistry lab at my university for the summer. I really enjoy it; the work is interesting, and mostly independent so my mind can wander. It's a very small lab so it's easy to connect with the prof and grad students there, not overwhelming.
My eventual career goal is to pursue research in genetics.
