I'd just like to know what you guys think. I agree with Lewis Terman, I think a genius IQ is over 140.

Scores depend on the test. A better measure would be percentage of the population. Genius is different from raw processing power. To be a genius one must also be highly creative. Genius is recognised by it ability to create something novel. Dumb but creative means that whatever is created will have already been done before. Thus one requires both attributes.

I think people can be geniuses without having a genius IQ, so for me the answer is "I don't care." I'll also go with 140+ though. :}

For raw processing speed and stuff measured on IQ test, I consider 150+ genius. Why so high? I've known some 130's and 140's range people and they seem normal enough. They may be a tad faster at mechanical logic, but some of them we're rather vapid. Some of them only knew what was taught to them and didn't bother analyzing the facts they'd memorized. Having a conversation with them was like talking to a calculator with a lot of storage space.
For novel ideas, making those ideas practical, and putting them into work, there are no numbers, just results. A certain amount of IQ is needed for daily life. Real genius comes from insight, blood, sweat, tears, and luck. Making mistakes and getting back up with a new idea to test. |

By definition genius IQ was supposed to be 140. IQ doesn't measure creativity which is now one of the connotations of being a genius, nor does it measure what people do with it. People can be geniuses without producing anything to show for it.

I'm only 130 and not even close to what I would consider a genius and have always known people in school and at work with more horsepower than I. So, I would have to go with something like 160+. They should be really rare individuals.

One psychologist claimed the label of genius should be reserved for those with an IQ hovering close to 180, typically it is viewed 140+ though.

I have 140 IQ. I don't feel like a genius at all - nowhere near. Probably because the term is so exceedingly vague and subjective.
I'm not sure I want to try to define, or use, a term like "genius" at all. Because it's so vague, it seems redundant. A person with 140 IQ has 140 IQ; you can deduce what that means for yourself. Similarly, a person with 180 IQ has 180 IQ - it doesn't really mean anything more than that, because of the lacking nature of the IQ scale. It's a nice pointer to a person's sheer processing power and logical ability, but in no way a good way to measure real "intelligence," whatever that is, beyond that. |

I prefer to not define genius by a test score.

IQ = success to me. How high it may be on a test and what the person can do differ greatly. That said, I cannot say someone with an IQ less than 140 is less of a genius than one above it. For some, such as myself, we take the test for the hell of it and tend to not fully answer all questions just because we don't have time to analyze every dam question given within the specify time frame.
Granted, mine is 130 and I believe that's more than enough for my crazy brain. Do I feel like a genius? Not really, I'm just a regular gal with one hell of a brain. |

I can finish 40 questions in 5mins. The questions are much easier than the ones IQtest.dk. |
