bicycle gearing. fitness, hh, physics

Weird question. If you geared a bicycle properly do you think it would be possible to accelerate up to, or maintain a speed of 60 mph using only human peddling? Just had an odd idea that if you put a small motor on a bike that could get you up to a decent speed I would think you could cut out the engine and maintain that speed using human power alone. You'd probably need more help going up hills and what not, but...

Yes it should be possible, but at those speeds drag becomes more significant so what you're wearing and the shape of your bicycle becomes very important.

The fools going downhill on snow and volcanoes are just 100% batshit insane IMO.
