I would like to request some clarification as to why my avatar was removed. Since the avatar has been in use well over a week, and no since mod or admin raised any objections when I started using it, I can only assume that I must have overlooked greasing some certain palms in allowing me to display a sense of humor.

Was I in violation of SOPA?

Thanks...

Your avatar consisted of a pair of people having sex. I just noticed what it was of the other day, and removed it.

Excessively lurid content is removed per forum rule 7.

It was suggestive but not conclusive that the couple DID have sex.

I'm curious as to how we define "lurid" around the forum so people are aware?

Both parties in the picture were naked. The female was sitting on top of the male's groin area in a thrusting position. It was definitely intended to be a photograph of two people engaged in intercourse.

Excessively lurid is anything that depicts graphic images or writings of sex or violence.

Excessively lurid is anything that depicts graphic images or writings of sex or violence.

Or it could be a photo of a male and a female professional model, properly clothed (albeit modestly), posing with props in such a way to evoke a laugh. (I can personally assure you that it was not a screen grab from a porn flick.)

You're reading a little too much into it. I find it hilarious that it took over a week for someone to be offended by it. Further, my avatar is pretty tame compared with the content of some posts, as well as pics that have been posted on this forum (not that I am offended nor would encourage censorship of said pic/posts, as they're pretty damn funny).

Just because it offends your sensibilities does not necessarily make it offensive...

now... why was mine removed? just a casual guy in noodle restaurant. Mind you, fully dressed with background with kitchen stuff and tables, nothing morally offensive nor biologically offense. how would THAT constitute as a violation?

Its a shame...I thought it was a clever image which was suggestive rather than lurid....but there you go...that's different cultures for you.

Lurid avatars are removed because the forum's ad providers prohibit it, not because the staff themselves have a problem with it.

If you're talking about the one deleted way back in August, the avatar had text in it.

As Thinker succinctly put it, suggestive it was, lurid, it definitely wasn't.

Did an ad sponsor complain?!? Who? Encyclopedia Puritanica?

I can understand the reasoning for not wanting to have lurid images posted. After all, this isn't a porn site. But I still think that a gross error in judgement was made in my case...
