I haven't seen the movie yet but I was the preview for the 2nd one and that prompted me to buy the books. I'm almost done with the first one. It was slow starting but now I'm glued to it. I plan on watching the movie when I'm done. I'm glad to hear it's good.

(Book)

Just finished the first book and I am about 100 pages into the second. I am very impressed with this book series and have not been into one like this since the Song of Ice and Fire series. Anyone else read it?

I'm sure this forum would be in love with Lisbeth Salander and would be more than happy to hail the INTJ flag over her.

The beginning was fine, didn't reach out and grab me but it was reasonable. Not sure I could have stuck out the first half if I hadn't heard comments like those above. I'm about 2/3 of the way through it now, and things are beginning to click. I'm expecting that by the time I get to the end I'll feel it was worth the trip.

I'm waiting for the third to come out in paperback. I enjoyed the 2nd but am starting to get a very unrealistic feel from it. Given it's fiction but still....some of it seems a bit over the top.

I was addicted to the first book. I only put it down for food until it was done. When I started the second book, it was tougher to get into because of the refocused plot line and temporary new setting. It took several attempts over a few weeks to get through the first seventy-five to one hundred pages.

When is the third book being released in paperback? I don't think I could buy the third one in hardcover now that I own the first two in paperback...

Really? I had a harder time getting into the first one. Probably because it took me a bit to get used to the Swedish names and places, plus there was a lot of character development initially. I get why it was necessary but it just made the reading drag a little for me personally.

I'm not sure when they are releasing the 3rd in paperback. I'm just too cheap to buy it in hard cover.

Same with me Seriously. I'm about 115 pages into the second one and while it's slow it is not a problem for me. Maybe its because you already know the characters.

The Swedish names still take me a while to get used to every time I pick the book up.

Saw the movie over the weekend. Did anyone else think the main theme was beaten to death? Felt a tad heavy-handed to me.

My friend got the 1st book to me, but I never got into it. I did read it to the end. I might give the 2nd book a chance.

Do you feel you must own the book to read it?

I've read all four books and got them all from the library.

I'm actually a little tinged with sadness thinking that the author will never produce another book, due to his early demise.

I haven't seen the movie. I haven't even seen previews for the movie in my area.

I was going to read it but got Sarah's Key, instead.

This book is next on my list.

I'm too forgetful for libraries to work well for me.

A friend loaned me the last one. Now I want to see the movies to compare.

I read the trilogy and became more interested with each book. The first one just about lost me, but picked up after the half-way point. The third ("The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest) was the best for me. I bought 'em from Kindle and read 'em on my iTouch.

I've watched the swedish versions of the movies. Having not read the books, I can't compare, but I believe the character portrayal of Lisbeth by Noomi Rapace was a pretty solid performance.

Alright, so this thread is a little old...but I just watched the newest version of this movie out of sheer boredom, totally prepared to hate it, but the girl reminded me of more than one INTJ that I know. Mostly because of this, I was actually pretty moved by it.

It's the first time, I think -ever-, in cinema, where I've been intimidated by a female protagonist-- to the point of experiencing relief when the (usually dashing james bond prince charming) male lead finds himself stumbling into danger, just knowing that she was intent on looking out for him. Watching her sew him up and then proceed to install surveillance cameras all around the house gave me a major INTJgasm. Cover them bases, woman! Even when hollywood tries to make a woman strong or scary, it never seems to work on me. This one has sand, though.

She reminds me of the way WW2 soldiers are depicted-- hard, galvanized, traumatized.

The idea of the story was good, but the writing was a bit shit I think.

I've only read the first book, but I wasn't that impressed.

If you read about the author, you realize that the books are a fictionalized account of how the writer wishes his life could have been. You know, semi-meaningful and cool, rather than being a communist in a society that is already one of the most well-balanced on earth.

Also, all the fucking harping on crime statistics of abused/raped/murdered women got pretty old. Larrson kills the horse, beats it, revives it, kills it again, and then hits it with a sledgehammer repeatedly. I get it dude, apparently Sweden is home to a bunch of monstrous meanies who are just itching for the opportunity to abuse a poor defenseless woman. As long as that woman isn't Lisbeth Sander, the riotgirrl who fights back! Yeah, go girl power! Show those meanies!

Also, Larrson talks about computers as if he has a clue, which he doesn't. Apparently super elite hackers only use macs.......(pardon me while I finish laughing)

ROFL

Never read the books, but your assessment is about what I deduced from the trailer. All the reasons I was ready to hate it pretty much came true-- stereotypical uber intelligent badass non-conformist byatch, cracking into FBI accounts with her macbook pro; a tired, rape-filled cop-show plot. What I liked about it were the surprisingly effective emotional responses it got out of me-- though they weren't at times when you'd expect. Most of the sledgehammer dramatic bits, like the rape revenge, or any of the climactic points, didn't leave me feeling much-- but the moment she shows up to help the dude, and asserts herself as sort of a naturally dominant figure in the team-effort dynamic, I was oddly moved a bit-- especially that part where she's hanging security cameras, for some reason. It reminded me a few INTJ females i know, and I love it when they really get into their element and shine. I love being impressed.

I've seen the original Swedish film and it was great. I hope the Hollywood remake will do justice to it.
