Oh that comment you took as an insult? My god no. I was asking you a question. You said (and voted) that you didn't have a spirit which implies that you know what one is to begin with.

Wut? No, if you refer back to my initial post, it states that I don't believe myself to be a free spirit since I'm too Type A to be one. Type As tend towards anality and perfectionism which includes controlling environment, whereby the stereotypical belief of a free-spirit, has connotations of laissez-faire (non-economic term) and winging it.

As far as my definition of spirit when separated from the word free, in non-religious terms, it's the essence of oneself.

I think so.. I hope so.. Right now, probably not. But as soon as I can, I'll definitely be off to some far away place to "find myself".

Simple misunderstanding then. I took type A as the being the first choice in this poll. So what is a type A then? I'm not sure which system you're referring to.

Never heard of the Type A, Type B personality theory? It's old as dirt and shouldn't be relied on in any serious way as it pertains to psychology or sociology. Just a quick way to describe personalities, in an idiomatic, slang sense.

Nope never heard of it actually, and this is someone who's done a psych degree, hehe. I'm most definitely more of a type B after reading that, but i still don't regard myself as a free spirit as i think and mull over things way too much. Almost seems like an easy comparison to the J/P dichotomy doesn't it? I imagine that in general you'd find more Perceivers who relate to being type B and a 'free-spirit'.

I used to think I was but reality bludgeoned me with a large Shillalah to demonstrate the error of that thought.

I'm a free spirit. I mostly just do what I want and go where life leads me.

Yeah, I kind of got that. I was about to add a comment about the poll obviously being put together by a free spirit.

And indeed you were right.

The poll was supposed to reflect a possible expression of a free spirit in jest. I'm sorry if I was impolite. Thank you for your response.

I'm no free spirit, but I'm independent, and I often don't care so much what people think of me. For example, I'd probably be a lot more popular if I had more "traditional" hobbies. Instead I'm a total nerd, liking computers, technology, and anime, and I'm not afraid to bring this topic up. My music tastes are very limited: I like classical and J-pop. That's IT - all I listen to. Doesn't make for good conversation. However, I'll admit I like to be appreciated by people with similar interests.

My career is very non-traditional for an INTJ (marketing), but I've done my best to make it my own, incorporating aspects of technology, computer programming, and entrepreneurship into it. And I'm the only business major in my college's 50+ person anime club. So if I'm not a free spirit, I'm definitely an independent one.

I'm not a free spirit. I'd say I aim to be fairly normal.

Yes, although maybe not outwardly visible, and it's torturing me in my current environment at the moment. No regrets, though, I wouldn't wanna be any different.

I feel like I am bound by no one, that I don't conform, don't bend, don't adapt. That I oppose and demand rather than cooperate and supply. I feel like I live the way I want to live, unwilling to follow the conventional way just because it's easier, but rather forge my own path if needed, or if that is impossible - travel where there is no path. I feel like I bow to no man, and only respect authority when it has merit.

But I know I'm not. I am bound and chained just like anyone else. By my own limitations, by my ignorance, by the traditions of the society I live in. My will is bent in accordance to the will of my corporate masters through their control of the necessities in life that I have no ability to produce on my own, and my comfort in having this access prevents me from learning how to break free. I do not roam the steppes, I am not pursuing a prey in the deep forest, I am not braving the high mountains.

I'm not free.
But I have the illusion that I am.
That's all I can ask for, I think.
