I've got a macbook and I want to have it run linux dual booted. Does anyone have any experience with doing this? Any experience with dropping osx altogether? I'm reading its easy to do for old versions especially, as everything is already compatible and no longer buggy. My macbook is 5,5 for reference, and I was also wondering which ubuntu version to use particularly. Thanks for any help you can offer this noob.

Try a Live Boot Disk out for a bit to see which Distro you enjoy using and whether it does all the things you need it to. Try Distrowatch or another site like that.

Well there's your problem you wasted $3500. Should have just bought an off-the-line laptop for around $600 and then put on Xubuntu or Fedora or something.

Apple is a lot of $$$ for something that just looks pretty...

I run linux in a virtual instance and it works pretty well. I can't really give much specific advice in terms of dual booting a system, but (as indicated) you should be able to switch over to it just fine with the live boot disk (which you can create by downloading the ISO and burning a disk from it). Google can probably help more.

Not sure how difficult it will be to set up on a Mac, but if you are relatively new to all of this Linux Mint isn't a bad choice.
