Do you take any supplements, shakes, whatever? If you dont, why not? If you do, why and what do you take?

Just curious about people's opinions of them.

My friend uses Myoplex Lite (

I use whey isolates and casien throughout the day, I use it because I use my muscles alot, so I like to provide a good environment to repair them plus it makes really good chocolate milk so win win. I actually don't remember the names of what I have right now, its just whatever was the best quality for my buck. I also take a good multivitamin

Considering what shit goes into regulated food (FYI, 80% of the mammal flesh sold in supermarkets is very likely contributing to diabetes increases), the shit that goes into NONregulated suplements, powders, etc etc etc is fucking frightening.

Not with a ten hundred foot pole.

I do casein in terms of protein powder, but you should shoot for getting your protein intake through whole foods as much as possible. Other supps I take are multivitamins, fish oil, cissus, and zmk (zma variant) at bed time. I take supps because I powerlift and it makes a world of difference in my recovery.

Also, if you're willing to spend more there are supp sites that provide 3rd party lab verification certs verifying supp content and potency.

A multivitamin and calcium/vitamin D supplement since I am intolerant to dairy products, don't get much sun, and live in a northern country (Canada).

and that's why I use them. I can tell a big difference when I don't use them.

There is a lot of crap out there and the recommended amounts on some (many or most???) aren't enough. You really have to experiment, keep track of your intake of suppliments, and your performance to find the right combination. It can take a lot of time.

I think some are good, and some are really just to make money... as in everything there is a lot of "trend" in it.
I only take them when I'm on a diet.

Multi, fish oil, protein shakes, L-Lysine, and cycle creatine pills. I also probably take in more caffeine than I should.

IMHO, the next big supplement will either be life-extending or something that allows people to allay the effects of sleep deprivation.

But from what I've read of bodybuilding competitions, it is extremely rare to get beneath 7-8% body fat without drugs.

I take whey powder, multivitamins, and vitamin D. The whey powder is crucial because I'm athletic, and I take vitamin D because I live in Canada and don't get enough sun.

I could probably do without the multivitamin now that I'm not a student and eat a healthy diet, but I'm stubborn.

I take:

Whey protein with added BCAAs

Cassein protein with added BCAAs

Creatine - Just started this a couple weeks ago. I haven't had enough time to make up my mind on it.

Multivitamin

CoQ10 - It's supposed to be good for your heart, and I read a study that suggested it could help with muscle repair.

Ginko Biloba - Supposed to be good for focus, but I also read a study that suggested it might increase blood flow which would also be good for muscle repair.

St John's Wort - It seems to ease the depression some. At least I don't get as many crazy thoughts since I started taking it, and the few I do get don't seem to spiral into worse ones.

Caffeine Pills - For an energy boost before my workout.

The final frontier imho will be myostatin inhibitors. Hulk and She-Hulk won't just be in comics anymore.

I've had whey shakes every day for breakfast for almost 2 years now. Quick, easy, lean, and tasty.

I take creatine. I origionally took it for helping me at the gym, but I've found it actually helps me focus better. Something to do with phosphorus donation in the ATP system or something...

I have protein shakes every now and then, but they get pricy.

The Myoplex carb conscious ones are good and light, and the Atkins ones make good meal replacements.

I do drink a lot of soymilk (sweetended with Splenda- don't need the extra sugar and unsweetened tastes like liquified chalk), though. I go through about 2-3 boxes a week.

I'm trying to lose weight and tone up a bit for the fall fencing season. It's not like I want to be any sort of bodybuilder, though.
