What? Fruits?
Humans are the only species that cooks their food.
The animal closest to us, Chimps, eat primarily fruits; they don't need advil, aspirin, etc.

Which is why we should abandon all advances we have made as a species over the past 200,000 years and imitate our chimp brethren instead. Ook ook.

We can make pyramids, we can make planes, but we cannot change our internal biology. Just as we need air and water, we need natural and untampered foods. The food most appealing to us in it's natural state is fruit.

I absolutely love meat - beef, pork, lamb, chicken, fish, veal, etc.

As long as vegetarians/vegans do not try to (forcefully) impose their lifestyle on me, e.g. look down on me as some sort of abomination for being an omnivore, I have no problem with them. In the end, it is a lifestyle choice.

I eat meat every day (probably more than once) and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. I cannot imagine having a braai with less than my 500g steak and couple of marinated chicken sosaties. And don't get me started on biltong, droëwors and chilli bites as snacks.

You said, "Chimps, eat primarily fruits; they don't need advil, aspirin, etc." How do you know that for sure? Are you saying chimps never get hurt or sick? Are you implying that vegans and vegetarians never encounter any health problems whatsoever? Or do they just develop superpowers?

I'm a vegan completely and live a vegan life style. I have people who don't understand why I am one and try to debate with me by first asking "WHY?". It's annoying as hell. I try to avoid having this conversation because it's a touchy topic and many people just don't understand it. Nothing they say can change my choice, they don't understand that either. I'm a vegan for both logical and emotional reasons. Animals have nerves and a brain that can sense pain just like humans. I'm a vegan for the same reasons why a lot humans don't practice cannibalism and wear each others skin. Also for the environment and my own health as well. I will be a vegan till the day I die.

I'm veggie, recently trying out veganism, which isn't a huge step since dairy upsets my stomach anyway. I see no need to cause animals to die or suffer when I could just as easily eat plants instead.

Other people might find going veggie to be more of a struggle and therefore not want to do it, and that's their business. I will happily give them vegan recipes or cook vegan food for them, but if they want to eat meat on their own I'm not going to expend much energy trying to stop them, so long as they respect my choice not to eat it. Although I disagree with killing animals for food and definitely don't want to contribute to it, there are bigger moral issues in the world.

Vegetarians do taste better.

I don't eat a lot of red meat, but I still eat meat. Mostly chicken, fish and shellfish, with the occasional pork. Pork is my meat of choice.

I have a question that's been on my mind for a couple of days.

I recently picked up a little bag of delicious, tiny apples. On the bag, it states that they are coated either with a vegetable or shellac based wax (as most fruit in stores tends to be).

Shellac is bug secretions. Most of the vegans I know shop at regular food outlets (and our apples are from within the state, so they're everywhere). Does the potential for eating bug secretions have a bearing on the 'no animal products' thing, or do people usually not know about it, or just choose to ignore that part?

The smart version of this is to stop systematic animal abuse. No more meat factories. No more animal products at the grocery store. You'll have to know the people who killed what you want to eat by name, so you can judge if they're sadistic, or just making utility out of what's left over from the euthanizing stage of their animal husbandry.

If you wash them well it comes off, I suppose it depends on if they do not want to buy it with it on in the first place.

I am a vegetarian. It started out when I was 12 (in 1996) mostly for ethical reasons. Today is more for health-related reasons and the fact that it has become more of a lifestyle that has become a part of me.

Not a vegetarian/vegan. (I love fish too much. Sorry!) I'm a believer in buying the most ethically sourced eggs/meat on the market, and I love good vegan food.

I would eat fish meat anytime. It is very good. On the other hand it cost too much.
