I hate how holidays are celebrated today. Let us take Christmas for example. Christmas, without going into the origins, was a cultural celebration where friends, family, and the community would get together and celebrate. Today, Christmas seems to only be about consumerism.

"Buy this!", "Buy that!", "Get the gift your loved one will enjoy!". It gets really annoying. Whenever I celebrate a holiday, I attempt to celebrate the same way it was first celebrated. If that is not possible, then I will, possibly, still observe the holiday. I do this out of respect and for the fact that I love history.

My favorite holiday, Halloween, has become the same way.

I never attend large parties where people drink, eat, etc. Unless, of course, the holiday is meant for that; which many are.

Like you, I enjoyed the holidays as a kid. As an adult, however, the holidays are a total disruption of my life. I feel a substantial amount of social pressure to participate in these things which can be quite draining for me and provide very little payoff. For Halloween I usually invest considerable time, energy, and money in some costume which no one really cares about and that I will wear to some boring party. Thanksgiving isn’t too draining for me but I can see how it can be for many people. And Christmas is complete madness. Childhood memories create quite an emotional bond for most people that it becomes evident in their adult years they will never undo their childhood “programming”. I guess when it comes to holidays most people just like doing what everyone else is doing, some of us don’t but reluctantly participate, and a few social misfits or “grinches” or “scrooges” do not partake of the celebration.

My holidays mostly don't coincide with any of the usual ones celebrated here. We're too young to have established traditions.

It's quite convenient. It's not like anyone has any expectations of any of us.

Very much dislike. Holidays just seem like a shallow excuse for a corporate cash grab. The only holiday I even slightly celebrate is halloween because I enjoy the costumes and dark imagery. As a child, of course, I felt differently but as an adult I refuse to celebrate them. Now days they are pretty much just an excuse to have a day off of work.
