In two campaign stops Thursday, Mr. Obama invoked what he portrayed as a specific new example, citing a blog posting from a liberal advocacy group as he teed off on a longtime adversary, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, over its political spending.

“Just this week, we learned that one of the largest groups paying for these ads regularly takes in money from foreign corporations,” Mr. Obama said. “So groups that receive foreign money are spending huge sums to influence American elections.”

But a closer examination shows that there is little evidence that what the chamber does in collecting overseas dues is improper or even unusual, according to both liberal and conservative election-law lawyers and campaign finance documents.

Mr. Obama himself faced accusations by conservative opponents in his 2008 campaign that his large online fund-raising efforts may have generated contributions from foreign nationals barred from contributing. No allegations were substantiated.

“People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones,” said Bruce Josten, chief lobbyist for the chamber, as he recalled the 2008 allegations.

So, once again we see the Obama administration, Obama himself acting as is typical of Democrats in lying to distract from their own massive failures.

When are we going to get to the point where one actually has evidence before using one's office to level an accusation?

Never because that's our society. Enough finger pointing without defense is considered to be fact even in the event that it is not. Sometimes your defense is not even enough to overcome the accusation.

"ThinkProgress has called on the Chamber to prove how they keep the funds separate by making their records public. The Chamber, so far, has not responded to that request."

"“You don’t know because they don’t have to disclose,” Obama said..."

Awesome. So, if that was a charge that had been directed at Obama your position would be that all he has to do is open up his records. I mean, if he's not doing anything wrong then the only reason he'd refuse to disclose is that he's hiding something. But, since it's Obama who made the accusation, or as Beck would say, "Is just a guy asking some questions here," it's totally groundless and a cheap partisan attack.

Another Obama dartboard thread.... greeeaaat.

Slightly amusing, but generally tedious. Not much substance.

Perhaps if we just kept one "Obama is evil incarnate" thread going permanently for people to fling some shit when they feel the need to.

At least he's not a witch.

A dishonest politician? You don't say! I think you're on to something extraordinary here.

Yeah, maybe. And from what I read here, it seems to be a common trait among Democrats and liberals, but utterly absent from Republicans and conservatives. I can't figure out if it's just a zany coincidence, or if Democrats are pure evil.

From what i'm reading, it doesn't sound like Obama is talking about "collecting dues"

If there were no substantiated allegations, then it's unfair to assume any impropriety on Obama's part, yes? Surely, if there had been any actual tampering, somebody who opposed his election would have stepped forward with the info.

Fixed.

It applies to pretty much every politician. Have you forgotten that the Bush administration essentially lied about WMD's in Iraq "to distract from their own massive failures" in failing to catch Bin Laden in Afghanistan?

Not gonna lie.

I expected a thread on Watergate.

Highly disappointed.

Won't comment on the OP, because there's absolutely nothing worthy of it.
