It would be fun to show up to this "meeting" and no one would tell anyone what their ID is.

But I don't think it'd be QUITE as bad as everyone just standing around. I'm sure SOME people would start some cool conversation.

Though I can imagine the huge empty space in the middle of the room.

I'm also completely baffled by the people who'd fly somewhere to meet up.
They must be either very rich, or very lonely, or very ridiculously friendly. (or all of the above)

Hmm...

I run a "meetup group" for professionals in my field but is private and limited to certain individuals only. I do it mainly for career development nothing else. Is not a place to meet others for dating, is a place to share knowledge and network in order to excel on my career. Not to mention a lot of them are very good friends of mine.

However, I haven't set-up an actual group meetup yet... but I do plan to set-up something soon.. most likely family friendly because most of the members have families.

I also belong to a few other meetups... and I normally go just for the kids to have fun when there are family events.... however, I do not mingle with adults that much, I tend to be the photographer... just take pictures and entertain the kids. Outside of that meeting I do not keep in touch with anyone until there is another family friendly event. Is good to change the atmosphere sometimes....

I don't see any point to meet people for conversation only.
If they're going there for just conversations why couldn't they just use messenger?
-Low cost (Major factor)
-No physical danger
-No need to greet everyone

I don't think there's much to gain from physical interaction
-handshakes?
-atmosphere?
-interactivity?

although I do suppose there would be a significant lag reduction which comes in handy.

It’s an interesting concept but part of the fun for me is that I don’t know anyone here. I guess it depends on what you want to get out of it, for me this is a bit of light entertainment and some thought provoking ideas not a social life.

I think the only time I’d consider anything like that was if I was travelling to another country and someone offered to show me the sites. I’ve known people travel to other countries to meet internet buddies and I just don’t get it.

I think attending an INT meetup would be fan-fucking-tastic! I know I'd have a blast.

I don't understand why people would bother taking a plane just for a forum meetup though. I mean some some other forum members travel great distances by car just to meet up in one town because they're all tight like that there, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

i was curious cause i remember seeing it on some other forum and i was just daydreaming (again) yesterday when i just couldn't figure it out why people would do this

there is another forum that this INFJ chick was in Budapest (she travels world-wide, believe me, from L.A. to eastern Europe), and she wanted to get some people froom england, france, portugal, etc to meet up with her in Budapest. also some folks flying from the US

if i was rich, i might, just maybe slightly, if anything, consider it... but i doubt it

I could see a meetup working if everyone had a task to do and if there were activities because if you are anything like me then you'd rather be busy doing something instead of chatting, of course a little bit of booze to loosen the tongue can make for some fun rambling. A room full of INTJ's, who knows maybe we'd discover something new about ourselves if we were with people that we all felt that we are on the same level socially, maybe we would have great conversations and even better laughs, rivaling those of other more socially adept personalities...

At first they would be spread evenly through the room, too far apart to interact.
But the trouble starts as soon as one proclaims to have found the last digit of pi, or something of similar significance, which will lead to mass congregation.
And has anybody established the critical mass for INTJ-fission yet?

I belong to a local forum that was originally aimed for the students attending the university, although as we get older and many of us are getting jobs elsewhere it is becoming less and less of a local board all the time, and as we seem to be recruiting less people than in the past. Anyway, most people know at least a few people on the board and people meet up all the time for various reasons. It's really nice to have bike people, car people, or people you can turn to for help that won't expect more than beer or food in return.
