Hmm...I never associated the smell of books with bananas...lol. But, come to think of it they kinda do.

Heh, thanks for the offer... I stumbled upon Jacques Torres' recipe, and yay... I used pastry + bread flour and 70% cocoa as outlined, and I'd like to think I've made my first batch that doesn't have that home-bake smell or texture!

You're likely killing it by making your liquid too hot. test the liquid like you would a baby bottle or bath water; against your wrist. If you can't feel it or it's just a little warm it's safe for the yeast. I don't test anymore I just know but I've been making bread since I was 5 so it's almost automatic now. Anything over 115 degrees is bad.

Holy crap Batman... You're ~2 hours from me. One of my best friends lives in Nashville and so does Jonathan Brewer.

Yes, I've been in the hotel. We love it in Gatlinburg but we tend to stay outside of it in a cabin. Last time was one of the least stressful times I can remember, we need to go back. LOL

Fairly well, I guess, but I only really know a few people. Mainly they are some old friends of my wife who have moved into the area for reason or another. As luck would have it, some of their spouses did not grow up SDA either, so once they find out I didn't, there is usually a sigh of relief. I remember one of her friends in particular . . . . My wife invited her and her husband over to grill out one day. Her friend got all embarrassed and whispered "my husband likes to eat grilled shrimp". I said something like "no kidding! I love grilled shrimp! Does he know where to get good shrimp?" I thought she was going to pass out from the shock of finding out there was someone else in the church like her husband.

I don't really make a habit of openly arguing with anyone, though. If someone asks for my Southern Baptist view on something, I'll tell them, but there's no point in making a scene about it.

How about you? How did you get involved?

Yeah, it is kind of rare. I worked for my wife's brother-in-law right out of college. Met her through him when she came to visit her sister. (He wasn't my boss by the time we got married, though!) She went to an SDA college (Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska), but had lost touch with a lot of her friends after graduation since they mostly moved out of the area. So, she wasn't seeing anyone, I wasn't either, and it just kind of went from there.

My wife grew up SDA, so when we got married I started going to her church.

The thing I like the least is that we somehow have to spend at least 10 minutes every week explaining how all those "Sunday Keepers" are going to hell. As you said, I don't think God cares what day you worship on.
