That's the thing. They create the demand for the rare supply. But then again, if everything's this clear-cut, then why do relationships' break-ups and divorces still happen? Shouldn't monogamy at the first place comes with the assurances that "i'll be with you no matter what", etc etc. So, when someone new comes along, it seems that monogamy becomes the scapegoat to kick the current relationships aside, instead of working hard to fix them. Monogamy is suddenly the banner for "leaving is better than cheating".
Hence the moral superiority that you mentioned before.
