I'm jealous. Some of the best Doctor Who episodes are Tom Baker episodes, but I'm too young to reminisce about the "good old days". :D

"Spread the Word" is a common Xian fundamentalist (extremist) phrase meaning to indoctrinate others w/your beliefs. "Pass" can mean "pass wind [fart]" or "deficate." So "eat a bible and pass the Word" is saying that religion is s***...careful not to say this around any church, or perhaps you'd like to do just that

In the U.S. this is all hidden but nonetheless exists. Because of all the attention and deference being given to the extremists (Tea Party Patriots, so called) both parties tread carefully around them. Our paper currency has "In God We Trust"* on it. At times I feel like I'm living in Iran.

    * I'd like to change this to "In God We Trust, Everybody Else Pays Cash."

Another: Jesus Saves....at First National Bank.

Final thought: "Eat a bible and pass the word." (this may be a bit hard to understand because it's very idiomatic..I can explain it if you need me to).

Agreed. Here's my story: raised Baptist (Xian fundamentalist sect); started uni; met Muslims, Buddhists, Catholics, Hindu, etc.; told the minister they were all good people and asked whether they were going to Hell because they didn't follow Baptist ritual (e.g., being baptised by dunking in a tub of water)? After hearing "yes," I walked out and have never been in a church since, other to attend a wedding or two. I clearly saw that "religion" and "ethics" are different and often mutually exclusive. Religion is also so frought w/hypocrisy I fail to see how anyone could fall for the propaganda. So for you it was the Greek Orthodox establishment. Does it play a dominant role in politics there as the fundamentalists unfortunately have here?

Or how about "believe whatever you want, just keep it to yourself." I think that's the root problem. I've observed that many "religious" people join a sect/cult because they need to belong ("sheep" you said, exactly so). Also, it's empowering being told you're better than the other guys because of what you believe...you're part of a "special" group. Similar to the poor whites who joined the KKK...as long as they had blacks below them, they were "superior" to another group as poor as they were. An an INTJ I have a very hard time understanding this need since I'm so agressively independent. So do you grow up having to attend a church?

I thought of it because of your interest in the Library, which is the main story location; excellent visual reconstructions based on fact. Also, the movie is a powerful treatment of reason vs. religion...early Christians against centuries old Greek/Egyptian learning and culture...guess which one "wins?"
