Fellow tango aficionado: heard of Los Hermanos Macana? Here they're dancing a milonga.

    Tsk tsk.
Boxing? I didn't realise you liked boxing. (Not that I should have known, of course, but it just seems like a random sport.)
And how many tickets? Mayhaps...nah, kidding.

I do hope to return in the next year or so. I'm applying to several unis in the UK for my Master's degree, so hopefully I can get in to one of those. *crosses her fingers and says a prayer*

Well, then the masculine equivalent of 'pretty'. :P

YES, OF COURSE. I've been watching it online. The Germans dominated, as expected, but Sweden was quite a surprise, and Great Britain had some incredible rounds. If I could ride like Mary King I would be set for life. The only downside to watching it is that it makes me miss riding even more.

Are you going to go watch any of it? I mean, come on, it's 10 minutes from your house! You could walk! I love Greenwich Park. It's wonderful in the summer and slightly less crowded than Hyde Park.

I'm fine, thanks for asking. Been up north at the cottage relaxing and enjoying the beach with some friends. Just got back to the big city, unfortunately. Should have stayed up there for the remainder of the summer.

Jim Beam is made in Kentucky. You'd be very popular here for that statement. People from Tennessee hate Kentucky.

Sadly, I've not been to Britain, at least not outside of the womb. My parents lived in Upper Hayford and I'm not British by about a three week span.

I have a lot of family on my mom's side in Germany, so there's plenty of excuses to stop in England. My father wants to go back before he dies. He's one of those stubborn people, though, so I imagine he may outlive us all.

Visiting the US is fun because it's so diverse. Moving from different states can feel like moving to another country. I imagine in some ways moving from Washington to Tennessee is more like moving from Scotland to England than Bath to London, if that makes sense.

You're bang on...thanks for sharing this. My inclination is to ignore poetry, partly because lit instructors ruined a lot of it for me w/their obsessive overanalysis and arrogance ("how do you know that's what the poet meant? You lowered my grade because I didnt agree w/you? !!!!!!) and partly from "our" nature to want to "get to the point already!". This poet does indeed describe "us" amazingly well. I suspected his name is a pseudonym because that'd be too close a coincidence for it to really be Strong Soul...and I see it is. I enjoy seeing how your quoted poem fits in a series, and have a better understanding of the title.

You mean Jorge Borges, the famous Argentine writer and poet? No, unfortunately, I haven't read any of his works but I have heard of him. Obviously, you have read or studied him -- would you tell me more about him?

..como los polacos en los chistes estadounidenses...aunque con el alto grado de corrección política aquí no se los oye casi nunca. Desgraciadamente hemos perdido el sentido de humor...es decir después de haber elejido a Bush

Unfortunately no; never had the opportunity. However I did meet several argentinos on vaca in Chile (made several consulting trips to Santiago); several approached me on the street asking for directions...guess I looked trustworthy

Reminds me of a common joke. Un shileno y an argentino estan chismeando; en algun punto el argentino se pone molestado y le dice al chileno: sabes, hombre, del comico al ridiculo solo hay un paso. Responde el shileno: claro, y se llama Puyehue.

Good age. I love horse racing, though I hear you Brits get a little crazy and the horses run in the opposite direction we run them.
