Personally, I'd offer you more advice if I had it, but it sounds like the two of you know what you're doing anyway. You could maybe try playing online games together some while you are physically apart, if either of you are into that sort of thing - there are some free-to-play options, so you wouldn't necessarily need to pay anything.
