Interesting observation about family units being individualistic in nature, I've never really seen it this way before. I think there is a marked difference in attitude between urban dwellers and those who live in the outskirts of Vietnam. What are the problems reminiscent of modern times over there? I remember the place for its paddy fields and motorbike taxis lol...

Agree. All that emphasis on themselves is typical of people living in individualistic societies.

Brilliantly said. The amount of cynicism surrounding a simple compliment is massive in this thread.

yeah, but i used to be with burningman, building extreme things like a portable flamethrower and jet engine made from auto salvage parts... that diy

thats great that classes are a review, for me its selective.. i would chose to audit a class over grades.. and if it was a smaller subject on the test that i didnt care about covering .. like frued's id/ego/superego.. i would skip it because i think self psychology does so much better, and there's nothing i would learn about the freudian part.. that kind of selective. high judgement function, intuitively understands whats required and able to forsee consequences... all laid out rational thinker.

This is a LOT like what I went through - Europe, the naive choice, all of it. Glad I'm not the only one.

Ha, don't worry I found it very enlightening. Quite a lot of people speak Irish, but not many to fluency. Last year I started to look into Hiberno-English but found it hard to see the oddity as I speak it normally. Language affecting the way you think, I honestly never considered that before. Having disablities affects communication. I have a very high standard of English (or Irish) orally and reading wise, but due to dyslexia my vocabulary is reduced and I write simply. I understand about meanings translated. Of example is 'Tá mé iontach ocras orm' which would mean I am very hungery, but literally translated means 'The worlds of hunger are upon me'. Very dramatic for something simple.

mostly what i read and study, it usually doesnt get used so its not important. maybe a natural tendency because its for the same reason i hate universities but love the resources, environment, and cool research they do. but a degree? think i only used and applied about 10% of what i learned to a career. my hobbies and interests? diy is the best approach that doesnt require an advanced degree just to enjoy it.

Mhh, Linguistic particularities? How so? How does would our way of speaking influence the public way of thinking? Do you mean the goverment and certain speeches, or just in general? Did you look at the Irish language old and new versions?
