I play at it. All my stuff is old school. My favorite right now is an Epiphone, a copy of the Les Paul '56 Gold Top. I like the P90 pickups on it. You get a lot of sustain.
I agree on the melody trigger, but it isn't as helpful to me for identifying pitches as it is for creating them out thin air. I never got anywhere worth mentioning, but good luck to you and let me know if you do succeed!
Very neat that you are attempting it! I tried a number of different systems/methods when I was younger, but eventually gave up. For where I am now, it's no longer something I *need* but the idea of developing 'the impossible' (as you put in your thread comment before) also has intrigued me.
I still have never met ANY adults who developed perfect pitch by trying, and I have known literally hundreds of conservatory students and professional musicians. I have heard of some people *supposedly* developing it, but am doubtful. That is why I'd love to see someone accomplish it!
I play jazz piano, for the most part (also classical piano, technically, but there aren't very many gigs available for that).
I can sort of play the violin and french horn too, but I haven't really kept up on those since high school. It helps for composing/arranging, though, so it's not exactly a wasted talent.
I'm pretty sure that if a man sent me a handwritten note (especially with THAT handwriting!) I would melt on the spot. I'm old-fashioned like that. It really does look nice, your writing.
