So, how do writers go from having a manuscript to being published in France?

Have you seen query letters in your field? Do you have some knowledge of them? I have read up on them and looked at examples but some of the advice seems unreliable.

I've only read to this point, so anyway: for me it seems to have something to do with growing/changing/becoming better in some way. If I'm not growing I'm not happy, and I'm not comfortable with people who seem to see no need to grow or change. Does this fit?

Well it depends how lucky and quick one is. They would have liked students to work on a master thesis for 2 years. Yet there is no time dedicated to it at all thus most just make it during their studies in the last year.
Seems similar indeed. It's a thesis none the less though.

PhD. is a little different from previous levels, as it's mostly research and not that much studying. You basically work on your thesis or other related projects and the thesis is then longer and has more to it.

Ah ok, pages are not very indicative, rather time and effort needed to make it.
We have thesis that is 50-100 pages but most of the time you spend working on your project, then write about what new you researched.
