How? By "simple" I only meant that, based on the (dinner) act itself, it need not have greater implications - not that it couldn't have any.

Does being open about the feelings guarantee resolution of them though? In any case my issue isn't with openness where it applies (to her worries, if she's ready to share them, though with acute anxiety that can be taxing), but with posters encouraging the OP to make the same loaded, unsupported assumption that they were - but she was not yet actually - making. Framing a person's doing so and then expressing it as a matter of principle or social obligation seems like it could pressure them into misrepresenting their more central thought processes in a way that might harm their relationships with some other people. (Namely those who think that presuming that an opposite-sex someone wants you because they've asked you out to dinner once is silly and potentially a "red flag" for narcissism or uncritical thinking about dating conventions.)
