Thank you for your guidance in this post. Those are good questions to ask oneself, and I really appreciate it.

Indeed, one more point for Greece in the summer. What is it like living there in winter? My family usually goes to a small town by the Adriatic coast in the summer, which is pretty great, but it has an almost eerily empty and forgotten atmosphere in winter.

I suppose that depends on your savings (and where you keep them - not in Greece one hopes). Depending on how bad things are, jobs tend to vanish, savings start falling... Often better to have more money.

Your choice obviously. If your husband is making good money and his job is stable, cool.

Individually, maybe you should look for work online.

As usual, weak leadership is a problem... People need leaders (except that easy times do not make for good leaders - and Greece was decently comfortable earlier. Controlling government doesn't help the birth of new leaders either)

Personally, I'd hire German business architects to come over and help

(Processes might save you where passion might not)

Well, you could recover by committing to working together and helping each other (and refining processes)... Typically, people need some kind of legit leadership that can inspire them and help see good principles... But the work still has to be done by the people themselves, since the economy is the product of what everyone builds together.

(Hard times are unfortunately a bad time to become self-centered)

Usually, countries seem to go through cycles. Some decently strong country is built, but then people don't hold onto the principles and standards that made things successful or become too interested in having fun, and the thing crumbles (usually over generations - usually change is too slow for people to understand what is happening, how they are contributing to it, and how to counteract it... The character that created strength in the past, is lost)

There is a good chance that advancing technology will recover many of these issues - but my outlook on that is probably around 30 years... Technology has the quality of being able to dependably generate value in ways you might no longer be able to trust people to manage together... So investments in tech can build a foundation that doesn't depend as much on people being dependable.

(Which might be a useful long term perspective - but not as useful immediately - unless you plan to start an online software business... Its easier to start software businesses than hardware based)

As for alt-currency, barter is obviously a sort of alt-currency... Maybe someone should spawn a crypto-currency partially based in the Euro (unfortunately, I think your government is also being pretty controlling in a way that's not advantageous).

You might want to look into e-estonia and see if you find it useful.

I remember that some kind of secondary payment system was starting to form within the country. Unfortunately, fixing a country that is doing badly is incredibly hard (even if you had good leaders). Plus, the Greek people (from what I understand) don't really want to work with the government.

Realistically, the government is just an organization created by people... Maybe its time that a new grassroots one was spawned to serve the needs of the people - without depending on the old and corrupt systems (which is no easy suggestion itself)

It would be good if somehow there were people working on increasing efficiency (the right way to cut costs)... Its hard making sacrifices and maintaining motivation, somehow people need to be able to do both - to somehow find ways to keep themselves happy so that they want to live and achieve.
