It seems to help, I have had a little more paranoia after smoking recently, but the huge benefit it has for me overall. Before I smoked I was unable to relax and often that would keep me from falling asleep until 3 or 4 in the morning when I had to be up at 7 am to work at a pool. Now I can fall asleep at about 12 or 1; I don't have to get up until later in the day now, so that helps as well.
I've been smoking for 3 years; as an unoffical medical patient in a not so medical state. I have sever social anxiety and before I started smoking I was completely unable to talk to people in my own age group. Now that I smoke, I can work my retail position with the general public with no problems. Weed saved my life.
