Same here. The only time I've listened to audio books is on very long drives (e.g., cross country). I want to feel the paper. Typically I have 2-3 books going at any one time, located in different parts of the house, and at least one in reserve...shudder, the thought of having nothing to read Have you read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? It was never on my radar and just started reading it...what a hoot! INTJ humour to a T.

There is no man so young that I could have given birth to him. Still, I'm with you.

I'm reading a novel you might enjoy: The Swan Stealers by Elizabeth Kostrova. Very well written; I typically don't like fiction but she is so well versed in history, culture and language it'd been hard to put down. I'll just tell you French Impressionism plays a central role.

Don't you despise it when authors patronise their readers, e.g., 'She said merci to her friend, who answered "Ah, that's French isn't it?"' Well NO it's Ancient Babylonian! You may be familiar w/Kostrova because she wrote a best setter The Historian a few years back...another excellent read by the way.

Nice pics, nice home, thanks for sharing New England, I'd guess by the room and furnishings. The photos remind me of a tea party we had for my daughter, about the same age as yours at the time. Proper English tea, Victorian era china, lace tablecloth...pretty much same settings as you used. My wife's family came from a wealth NJ family (money long gone) but her mother inherited a number of top quality mid to late Victorian furniture, paintings and table settings. Best of the lot (IMHO) is a photo of her grandmother w/her violin in 1913 Prague...she had just graduated from Julliard and had started studies there...cut short because of the War.

Did you first upload your pic to an online photo site, such as Picassa? Once it's posted there, you can copy/paste it into a message box...you can't upload directly from your computer, phone, etc.

Me as well. I enjoy touring fully restored historic houses for that reason. Fortunately I live close to Charleston SC and Savannah, both great places to visit the past. BTW given your interests you may enjoy this thread I started: http://intjforum.com/showthread.php?t=85748&highlight==

I never knew that about the Quakers. I guess today wasn't a total loss in that I managed to learned something new after all. Thanks!

Opps! for some reason I thought you were from Old England, not New England! Well, I should be safe for now, but I'll have to remember to watch my back whenever I'm in that part of the country again.

I've never owned one personally, but I have known a few and yes, I know they can be annoying. Still, there is something about the personality and their almost comical build which I find compelling.

That's my favourite art type...the blurred edges appeal to my N. Years back I visited the Chicago Art Institute specifically to see the Impressionist collection...there was a huge Monet waterscape. What fascinated me is standing as close as possible all you see are the paint dots, then the further away you move the more shape objects take. Brilliant. My least favourite type is any realisim or abstract: Dutch 17th cent., TH Benton, Picasso (later works). And you?

no, it was i who offended you many moons ago. like i told you, go ahead, rumor i'm an amputee. i have little to hide here. i've already taken a few knocks here for being a hippy as well as some far more subtle stuff from acquaintances of acquaintances. it's all good. i just mute anyone i don't like. i don't talk to people that rub me the wrong way. had you offended me, i'd let you know about it for sure. i have no censor button in my head to speak of, pun intended.

True that...I'm almost to my sixth decade and would not willingly return to any of my past. Yup, maturity, moderate wisdom, having the edges soften. So many of our fellow forumites are in that rough tough "who am I" period.

No, m'dear, not old...une femme d'un certain age....French makes "old broad" sound much more romantic. So you're also a humanities/soc sci person...enjoyed your post about all the science/math types finally coming 'round. Are you interested in the late Victorian period, or was your avatar photo taken in one of those "ole tyme photo" studios?
