i totally relate to this thread, it's been bugging my whole work life thus far (only 5 years, granted). It's the reason I quit my job and am now trying to get into something humanitarian/ development based. what are you up to you now? did you decide to change from comp sci?

The pun on rational was perfectly clear; what was unclear was the intention behind the comment as a whole.

Less than half of an odd number doesn't imply the number isn't whole. In this case you can have more than half or less than half, but not half. What I said was intended to be humorous.

Yeah, I do. I don't really know what emotional maturity would entail, exactly... something along the lines of being able to withstand rejection, and being comfortable enough with yourself that you feel ok opening up to someone. I guess we can do a lot of growing up in short amount of time!

I was at UC. I found people there to be really goody-goody and conservative...I've been around the world since then, and don't live there anymore.

That's a good point; I work closely with my boss (the PI) and she always jokes that she'll soon convince me never to aspire to her position. What do you do?

I used to be a research assistant (slightly more of an intellectual job than a mere technician) but now I'm a lab supervisor meaning I don't do any science... not because I'm not allowed to do science but because the administrative stuff takes up too much of my time still.

Wow, I'm surprised I got it right. It was the hair, eyebrows and turtleneck that was distinguishable. Good artist.

I think that makes sense. I've done a lot of observing, even if I haven't used certain social skills personally. I've seen what works and what doesn't, like a fly on the wall. And goodness knows I'm becoming misanthropic. It's quite bad, actually.
