It sounds to me like he wants logical backing for his actions. People have already tried emotional responses and advice, and he continues to say he doesn't want either of those. IMO he's just using this thread to seem to be taking a logical approach about this, even though he's probably already made up his mind.

Depressed people frequently talk to people about their depression in search for something, but they don't even know what it is. Sad, really.
