The film gave a realistic perspective on the inner workings of a mentally disturbed individual, by presenting the subjectivity of morality in such an extreme perverted manner, it painted an honest portrait of a reality from the other end of the spectrum. The film is a fine example of brave film making, it is there to confront the causes of these uncomfortable existences, in the effort to understand and demystify it rather than out right shunning and condemning it. The latter actions would perpetuate the causes rather than preventing it.

Gaspar Noé is a pretty ballsy film maker, Irreversible and Enter the void are both challenging.



Try watch Lone star if you get the chance.

Dude... I knew about the neurosis but recommending Seul Contre Tous is beyond sickness. It's so disgusting and offensive that I doubt anyone with a clean bill of mental health should ever watch shit like that.

The voice-over was very well done, I like that it captured the symptom of racing thoughts in mood disorders so realistically. It's a very grim piece of work but raised no hard questions in the sense of moral dilemmas in incest cases IMO. The butcher is obviously twisted and his daughter is severely autistic. Noé is fucked up like that, but brilliant at the same time. Thanks for recommending!

Don’t feel like writing much today, but just letting you know that Lonestar is not a morality tale, John Sayles is a genuine and sensible story teller, he respects the audience’s intelligence and believes in the integrity of its individual viewers.

Also for an uncompromising psychological tale/character study, I recommend this film, I Stand Alone. It is not an easy film to find. I rarely recommend somber movies like this to people lest they will think of me as some sick fuck/weirdo, but you already know that about me. So enjoy!

There are studies suggesting the possibility of a link between genetics and incest. Add traditional freudian theories to the mix and they seem to support hypotheses grounded in intermediary relationships between incestuous impulses and avoidance. Severe punishments were then enforced to prohibit anyone from acting out these “instincts” or “neuroses”. It’s all very discomforting, yet intriguing.

And I haven’t seen Lonestar, is it a morality tale? What is the film’s message?
