I was consumed with the ideas about culturally-transmitted and language-specific memes-as-viruses in Snow Crash for a while, and how cryptography has changed the world. There is a lot to think about there.

A knife in the kidney is another irrational one.

Of these three, which do you prefer - Rummy, Euchre, Cribbage.

Nikita

Cribbage...I've never played Euchre, and Rummy doesn't require as much thought.

Mancala, if you count that as a board.

Is the sense of smell important to you?

Valhalla
06-19-2010, 01:31 PM
Rather. Had a period where my sense of smell got stronger to the point I could smell if a person was a smoker (when not actually smoking, of course) while standing 7 feet away. Also, the smell of their bodies: it was quite an interesting experience.

Also, Uggs as well as middle eastern trousers........can think of a few more, but I think you get the picture. Oh, can't stand french tips.

have either of your parents seriously impacted your life for good or ill?

Nikita
06-20-2010, 04:01 AM
both have had an impact for ill, though they have had their good influences (largely monetary), too

What impact has having kids made on your life?

reiven
06-20-2010, 04:37 AM
i was harshly disabused of the notion that my best intentions would triumph over the will of a child and then a teenager.
beyond that, keeping the promise i made to them to never leave is self-satisfying, and the joy of seeing them make mature decisions as adults...that is the greatest reward life has to offer me.

what are you learning now that will make you more successful in some other environment?

Nikita
06-20-2010, 04:38 AM
How to constantly overcome betrayal and to never rely on or trust anyone or their so-called "good intentions" over myself.

do you have a thing for scented candles, or do they go largely unnoticed?

Nikita
06-20-2010, 04:45 AM
I'm not one to spend much money on that sort of thing, but I do like my environment to smell good (it's probably the most sensate relationship I have with my environment). There's really only one kind I'll buy, but they're to be used, not to just sit there. I hate non-utilitarian items in my home.

What do you smell like?

reiven
06-20-2010, 04:48 AM
lavender with a splash of raspberry; or vegetable soup with an essence of vinegar...i forget which ;D

reiven
06-20-2010, 04:53 AM
yes. i so seldom make the effort to look nice. when i do try, i think i represent a part of myself that doesn't get much exposure; 95% of the time i don't care if my shirt is wrinkled and my jeans have grass stains from yesterday.

what was your favorite class in high school?

Nikita
06-20-2010, 05:00 AM
either Spanish or AP English...or AP Music Theory...or Chorus

What was your favorite class in college?

reiven
06-20-2010, 05:04 AM
i've only had two college courses. psychology 101 and basic (ascii) programming. the psych professor had such a debilitating stutter that i couldn't concentrate and i had to drop the course. the programming instructor was one of the most engaging men i've ever learned from. writing code in basic to make a star shoot across my monitor isn't really a beneficial skill, but that is my college career.

same Q?

Nikita
06-20-2010, 05:08 AM
Forensic Psychology, Psychometric Testing, Creative Writing, and Photography were my favorite classes. As for law school, the only classes I had any interest whatsoever in were Mediation and International Law.

Do you enjoy killing bugs?

jonnyb
06-20-2010, 06:52 AM
@ Reive^^^^^ (I am not wasting that writing): The duck my father got whilst duck hunting with me. It was not 'all the way dead' and when we got home, father took it into the workshop and cut its head off with the table saw. The duck went running headless all around spurting blood up, out of the stumpy neck. It then headed my direction, ran between my legs and then fell over dead.

At bugs ?: I kill bugs but derive the most pleasure when I kill a freshly glutted mosquito that smears red with my own digested blood.
