do you believe making the decision to give into something tempting is the same as having no self control? ie: i could say no to having that chocolate but i don't want to today..

jonnyb
10-22-2009, 11:09 AM
Not necessarily. If I don't want to give into something or have planned prior that I want to elliminate something from my life and then give into it, that is what I think is lack of self control.

Do you think someone working hard and spending a great amount of time mastering a skill makes that skill more valuable to the general populace as compared with someone who easily understands and perfects the same skill without a lot of time or effort?

Harmony

Not necessarily... I think they might VALUE that skill more than the person it just comes naturally to, but I'm not sure others would see it the same way.

Oh, sloth, definitely. I post here, don't I? I don't have tons of bad habits outside of that, or at least they've gotten less noticeable, and isn't that enough?

Along those lines, but framed a little differently, what are your top three deadly sins? (After sloth, I'm going to add lust and pride.)

Luciferi
10-24-2009, 10:11 AM
Definitely sloth. Sometimes pride (What? I'm an INTJ!). And for third place, probably tied between lust or gluttony, but only because the other that are left almost never describe me, while these sometimes do.

You can only choose from this list.

I have been very successful in both writing and science, and retire with a load of money. I then spend my retirement reading, traveling, and changing people's lives on an individual basis. I would just dump money in the laps of people who I thought deserved it. Also, I'd go to Palestine and start a giant company (knowing full well it probably wouldn't make profit) so that those people could have jobs. Once my money was almost gone, I would spend the rest of my days doing lots of drugs, having sex with strangers, and sitting on the beach basically being hedonistic until my lifestyle or something else killed me.

Beside from engineering some sort of fire and chimney system, I would stick to sleeping completely nude, likely with a head cap, and in extreme cases, keep the entire family in one bed. When not in bed I'd be sure to be fully dressed being careful to keep my head covered.

What's the most hair you would allow yourself to have?

On my head or elsewhere? I'm not overly fond of body hair and tend to trim a great deal of it. I don't think I would ever be comfortable with the hair on my head reaching as far as my shoulders, nor my beard growing to the point it dangled.
