Never fainted. Been super dizzy for various reasons, but never fainted.

Got my nose broken once in a martial arts class and bled like a mofo. It was the most blood I've ever seen come out of myself. One of my friends was mopping it off my feet and elbows. I didn't even feel like fainting. However, my best friend had to leave the vicinity b/c it freaked her out.

lol me too, I cut the end of my finger off and someone decided to handle it for me when I wanted to do it myself. I blame them! Cause I think I would have handled it differently and not have strained myself. After that I think I felt a bit bad feinting and connected it to the sight of blood which I couldn't believe because I was such an active child getting into all sorts of scrapes. But afterwards when I cut myself made sure to not let it affect me--which it hasn't.

Never fainted, but got knocked out once when a football hit me on the back of my head during PE class a long time ago. I'm surprised that I still remember it.

Nope. When I was younger and reading books where the characters fell unconscious at some point, I used to wonder why I never did.

The first time was because I kept on walking on a sprained ankle. (I didn't know it was sprained at the time).

The second time was for unknown reasons.

The third and fourth times happened in succession. Basically I got a lot of knee pain after working out, and dragging a mattress up the stairs. My knees didn't appreciate it. After a few hours of pain, I couldn't take it anymore and went into the kitchen to pop some advil. Before I knew it I wondered why I was sprawled out on the kitchen floor and not in bed.

I do get a bit of warning before I pass out though. My visual snow (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) goes crazy.

I've almost fainted- I was sitting for a long time, had some kind of blood rush when I stood up, and felt myself sinking.

Pain doesn't make me faint, though.

Once when I was really sick, I got out of bed and ended up on the floor. I actually thought it was fun and decided to do it again. I ended up hitting the back of my neck against a power plug and it wasn't fun anymore. It hurt for a few months after that...

That was the only time.

I have only fainted twice. The first time was in college after I gave blood. I now give every two months and never a problem. The second time was after I had my wisdom teeth out. I was in the kitchen doing the dishes and fainted (due to the strong pain killers).

In college; mix extreme stress with too much sugar and no sleep. I started seeing flashes of light, and then my field of vision narrowed to a tunnel and then I blacked out trying to get to the dorm bathroom. I was only out for 5 minutes, but that scared me.

I have only fainted twice. The first time was in college after I gave blood.

I almost fainted after giving blood. The nurse left the thing in too long after it was done and the back pressure did funny things. Combine that with not having eaten for a while and the chair being too vertical.

I went to stand up, and ended straight back down again, though I didn't actually pass out. So I don't get to say I've ever actually fainted.

I almost fainted once during basic training. Apparently if you stand very still for a long time, it can cause you to faint. Our bodies rely on movement of the leg muscles to pump blood upward, keeping it from all flowing down to our feet.. or something like that. I got tunnel vision after I had to stand at attention for about 20 minutes. I almost fell down. I got yelled at, but I didn't care much.

Twice, both while in high school. Once was when the tech teacher was showing a large set of pictures of what happens when you get a metal/plastic chip in your eye. The other was when the biology teacher was talking about the sheep's heart we would be cutting apart (oddly enough I was fine dissecting a sheep's brain a few years earlier). Luckily both times my head hit something (a foot or a table) before it hit the hard ground.

That reminds me, I watched people faint during basic training. Hundreds of recruits standing still in perfect formation, and then one of the 'tin soldiers' just falls down like a tower with a structural fault. Looked quite weird. I was spared of that, thankfully. The instructors tipped us to move and curl our feet inside our boots, while making no movements perceivable to others. Perhaps that helped - I don't know, I didn't feel any symptoms (apart from acute boredom syndrome and thirst :suspicious:)

I fainted at the patient checkout after having my blood taken. I had snow vision and quickly asked my girlfriend to catch me. Ended up banging my head off the counter and landing on the floor. (Good catch, lol)

I also passed out when I was getting the outline of my tatoo done, again, nailed my head on a book shelf before hitting the ground. I don't know what happened, I was nervous but didn't feel like I was going to pass out.

I get snow vision often, I try to catch myself and sit down quickly. I believe I have only passed out a couple of times.

I've fainted quite some times!

One of the first times was at school, I had something in my eye and I couldn't get it out, i freaked out :]. I was only about 8 years old though...
I also seem to faint when I have my blood taken, I really don't like the fact that they are actually poking the inside of my veins.
And ofcourse, in certain situations, like standing for a long time or a lot of heat in combination with a lack of water.

Good thing I actually cán handle blood, because I see it alot.

I had to run for the parking lot bus at work one night and I was on medication that had a side effect of low blood pressure. By the time I got to the bus and sat down I was very nauseous and could only see swirls of reddish black and felt very weak. I put my head down and hoped for the best, lol. I didn't pass out. By the time we arrived at the front of the main building I could see again, very shaky but able to walk.

I once got to see a guy at attention faint only a few feet away. He was a big guy, in the front of the column. He fell face first onto a rough asphalt parking lot with a lot of gravel on it. I remember that when the guys on either side of him helped him stand up, he still had some small pieces of gravel embedded in his chin. :stunned: That had to hurt

And what's your profession, hmmmmmm?

I fainted once, ironically enough (I laugh at it now, didn't then), inside of a hospital. I had been laying down for a couple of hours, and was partially dehydrated, and I guess that getting up and walking just made it all get to me.

I'm not allowed to give blood yet, and I'm not sure I will when I am allowed (if ever). I'm a bit squeamish, and just thinking about having blood slurped out of my body makes me feel a bit nauseous. It's not the needle going into me (having a needle stuck in you for three or four days will make you pretty indifferent about that), it's that

a) I'm worried that they'll take to much

and

b) My [freak out]BLOOD[/freak out] is being taken [freak out]OUT OF MY BODY[/freak out]

I used to pass out at random times, like at work or school - usually in the morning. I'd have a bad stomach pain, then everything would faze kind of white and my hearing would be dampened. Then plop, right into the floor. This started happening when I was like 16, but I haven't had one in about 2 years now.

I think it was panic attacks, but I have no clue.

No offense dude, but all you guys suck (except for Solnath). You've never fainted on purpose? (and besides Raven Queen, but the vertigo state immediately prior to passing out was not in her control.) There are specific methods: My friends and I used to do it every once in a while, the way we did it was one of us would bend over in front of and with one's back to a wall and droop one's arms down to one's feet. Whoever it was that wanted to "black out," we called it, breathed in and out really hard until one would feel tingling in one's hands. Then with a gasp of air, one would suddenly bend upright against the wall with one's arms folded in an X shape across the chest. Two people (or one, depending upon the strength of that person and the size of the person blacking out) would be standing ready and at this moment would push the person against the wall. In several seconds the person would relax in a state of unconsciousness into the arms of their friends (or sometimes into the corner of the wall or a protruding corner of another object). The thrill upon waking is quite the novelty, especially if one "dreams," that they believe to be reality, while they are unconscious.

Have you tried inhaling duster?
Stuff like that is extremely scary... maybe because I'm asthmatic.
I've seen people do these things without reluctance.

Solnath
12-10-2007, 02:44 AM
sTeph, that's the more impractical method. You can do it on your own if you fill your lungs and then push on the arteries on both sides of your throat so that blood flow to your brain decreases severely.

Hypo, it's fun because just when you're passing out your mind steps into a disjunctionary phase where the prevailing thought is "wtf?" At that point, the mind instinctively tries to reconnect but due to the lack of blood flow to the brain, it doesn't re-establish the old patterns and you see the world anew.

Inhaling dusters?

Me too. Mono is the worst... not literally, of course. I wonder how they keep the needle from going astray when you slump over, I can picture it dangling out of my arm. So is that because mono causes low blood pressure and taking blood out puts it below some critical level?

Anyways, I used to faint a lot before I was say, 10 yrs, anytime I'd get hit in the elbow or knee. Blackness would start to close in from the sides. Apparently I'd respond while in that state, not talking or anything.

Funny you should mention it, that time I had blood drawn they were trying to rule out mono.

I didn't just slump onto the floor. I did a somersault. And the tech, who was alone and a real greenhorn, went running out through the waiting room screaming for whoever was the regular tech.

Duh...don't they teach those people to have the smelling salts within reach before they start tapping people?

We need more INTJs in the biz. Clearly these guys are not good enough at contingency planning...

I only ever fainted once. It was in the dentists chair, after he just injected me with anesthetics. I think I had a bad reaction to the substance, cause everything just turned black and I went out. Since I was already in a comfy chair (not so comfy environment though) I woke up unharmed. Even got my tooth fixed after that. :)

To the people who say that I should faint on porpoise because it's fun: I LIKE FREEDOM!!! When I fainted, I woke up in a different place then when I woke up. I was out for less then a minute, and they already had taken back to a room and put me on a bed. They could have strapped me down and injected all sort of stuff in me by the time I woke up. I prefer to stay conscious and in control, thank you.

A couple of times. Once when I was sick, I stood up, felt dizzy and grabbed onto a nearby doorknob... came to a split second later still clutching the doorknob and asked how long I'd been out.

The other time was a little weirder... I guess I stood up too quick in the shower, because the next thing I knew I was doubled over with the shower curtain rod in my hand. I'd pulled it totally off the wall. I must have started to pass out and grabbed for it, though I have no memory of doing so. But in neither case was I injured.

Yeah, I was told that I fainted 'the good way' by the doctors when I fainted, because I managed to get to a wall (I remember seeing a wall and automatically going for it as soon as I realized I was about to faint; wasn't really in control of my body, it was on autopilot with my instincts), causing me to slide down it more than fall, making it next to impossible that I would've injured myself.

I have only fainted twice in my life. The two times I fainted appear mysterious to me. The first time I fainted was when I met the first and only person to date that I was in love with romanctically. The second time I fainted was the day I recognized are love was too dangerous to carry on. Since the second time I fainted I have not seen or spoke to this man, as I believe my body was sending me STRONG physical signals to go far away from him!

I have never fainted. But I have been very dizzy. Once my sight were all pink, I had my eyes open but I could not see anything. I was fully awake, I could touch and hear things but my vision was screwed up. Then I threw up my breakfast. Um, yeah.. fainted once that I remember.
Was hoisting a long angle iron on a pulley up a scaffold to do bricks over a big window... was probably about eight feet long and it was heavy, and I had to be kind of close under it to direct the counter force downward so as not to tip th scaffold too much.

Anyways, it slipped out and came rocketing towards me before I could fully react, I just threw my arm up and tried to get my head as far away from it as possible... bounced off my upper arm and shoulder, then all I remember next was everything kind of went away really fast, I staggered a few steps and the next thing I know it's like im on the ground waking up to the other guys standing over me... then the pain started comming, which sucked.

Amazingly my arm did not break, but it was severely bruised to the bone and black and blue and all sorts of other weird colors... wasn't able to use it for a couple weeks.

Have I fainted? No. But, like many, I have become incredibly dizzy--to the point of nearly fainting:

Despite the fact that I can tolerate viewing blood, wounds, graphic operations, etc. every time a completely tiny, insignificant paper-cut (or any other ridiculously minor abrasions) is inflicted upon me, I immediately grow very weak and dizzy. It seems that I simply cannot tolerate the sight of my own blood.

I never fainted in my 20 year of life. But I can perfectly imagine how it feels.
I sometimes have a weird feeling witch im sure is half fainting when I stand up after being relaxed in a chair or after sleep. What happens is: my vision somehow changes and I feel as I am about to fall down. It is quite interesting to me, so every time i feel this, I try running or moving faster to see if I can faint/fall. Never fainted yet, but looking forward to it. I experience this about once per two weeks.

Yes, three times. First time was in the freezer section of a supermarket, second was at work when the air conditioner was turned on too high, and third was at home, also when I was too cold. You can actually 'feel' when it might happen - you start to get very dizzy, blurry-eyed, it's like a mini out of body experience, then you go down and open your eyes a few seconds later with people looking down at you. Very bizarre. And you can get hurt, depending on how you fall.

Fainted a few times, for totally unknown reasons; it wasn't hot, i wasn't ill, etc - it's an odd experience. I feel like things aren't really happening around me, like a dream but, at the same time, not like a dream. Sounds are heard but not heard, and i can and cannot see. Sounds weird but that's the best description I can give. What does it feel like for everyone else who has fainted??

Third time I fainted I fell into a TV unit and broke my knuckle. Ouch! :(

I've almost fainted twice. The first time was when I was walking out to lunch on a hot day in downtown Honolulu and all of a sudden I couldn't see. The dangerous thing was I was in the middle of a crosswalk. Somehow I managed to find the curb and sit before the oncoming traffic turned me into roadkill.

The second time was after working out at the gym for a couple of hours (without eating breakfast beforehand) and I was in line at Subway. Just before I was going to order my sandwich, my vision blacked out and I felt a cold sweat coming on. What saved me was sitting down with my head between my legs to increase the blood circulation to my brain. Then drinking a soda my friend had with her.

I've fainted several times. Right before I faint I start getting light-headed and seeing the world via tunnel-vision. Now that I recognize what is happening I can usually take measures to prevent from completely losing consciousness.

I've almost fainted two times. Both instances were caused by heat and dehydration. In both, my vision "bubbled" away into nothing for a minute or so, but I was fully conscious (and positively miserable with nausea and exhaustion) the entire time.

I've also experienced vision loss from low blood pressure more times than I can count. But that experience doesn't feel like I'm about to faint; it just feels like I've gone blind for a couple seconds.

I have never fainted, nor have I felt like it.
Is squeamishness common in INTJs? I wouldn't think so, but a few people here fainted due to it...

I almost fainted after donating blood. I was standing at work talking to my boss when I felt extremely weak. I had to lay down on the floor afterwards before driving back home which is almost 1.5 hr drive.

And almost forgot, I also fainted for dehydration during a very hot day while biking for over 3hrs. I had to stop and rest, my vision was blurry too, but somehow I managed to move on. All I know is that it was very hot that particular day...

Twice fully, only on holidays, no chemicals involved. I have fairly low blood pressure, usually 100-110 over 50-60, though it is still in the normal range. Add in too much heat, hunger, or pain and all I have to do is stand up quickly and I wake up on the floor. The first time I fainted was Christmas morning. I got out of bed, walked into the bathroom, and woke up on the floor. Needless to say, I didn't go to church. The second time was on Thanksgiving the next year. Maybe I have subconcious issues with my relatives :)

Also, I get a bit dizzy in the shower fairly often. The heat and standing for a prolonged period get to me.

I fainted in the choir. and I fell on my teacher's back, sort of headbutting her (she was playing the piano in front of me) that was fun! :stooge_curly: take that you bitch!

what mesmerized me was the fact i knew it was going to happen and I remember me thinking: what da hell, I feel sleepy anyway ;D the look on their faces afterwards... priceless.

the good thing is now I can prevent it. I trust myself to no one

I fainted once for unknown reasons while cooking a can of soup in my ex-boyfriends kitchen, he apparently caught me and I revived a moment later on the floor.

Another time I fainted for a very brief moment on my friends parents porch as I was leaving. I had hardly eaten that day, hadn't slept, and had way too much coffee... little did I know I was also very early in pregnancy with my second child.

I often get lightheaded after standing up, many times I have felt it coming and had the foresight to sit down on the floor before falling. I suspect that I may be hypoglycemic.

Almost, after falling off a cantering horse, dislocating my shoulder and clipping my jaw with my knee.

I nearly fainted during a blood test. My vision became cloudy/white, my hearing was drastically reduced (everything sounded like it was at the end of a long hall), I felt very hot yet was shivering, I was very dizzy and I lost the ability to sit upright or keep my head up straight. I also evidently turned very ashen and the nurses melted an ice pack on my head in minutes.

They told me it was a reaction of the vagus nerve because of the foreign object that was the needle entering my bloodstream.

So yeah, I almost fainted.

Fainted once before a few years ago, just got up from sitting down and everything started going white. Next thing i know i was laying on the floor.

Also been knocked out after getting hit by a cricket ball in the left eye. Everything just went black that time. Oh and i had a massive black eye for like 2 weeks, lol. This was back in the day before all kids parents (I was like 13 at the time) actually started getting over protective, since we didnt have to wear helmets.

I fainted during midterms at the beginning of this school year... I pulled an all nighter, then slept all day without eating at all. Took a shower around 2 AM and passed out... came to in the middle of the dorm bathroom, yeuch. Supposedly it was because of a lack of iron. *shrug*

I nearly passed out (twice) right after donating blood. I remeber feeling (on both occasions) increasinly dizzy, sweaty, nauseated, the ringing in my ears getting louder and louder, and the sensation of being pulled into a cold black ocean. When I woke up, I remember having ice packs on the top of my head and other parts of my body.

-hey you asked :p

Yes, twice. But I've almost passed out like over 50 times. Stupid phobias. At least I've got used to the fight or flight reaction and can tell when it's escalating or not.
