View Full Version : Fellow INTJ's, why do we keep testing ourselves?

We know we're smart.
We know we are 'weird'.
We know the answer will often be somewhat alien to anyone except...us.
Why is it then that we still constantly feel the need to test ourselves and publish results?
We already know the answers yet claim not to seek to advertise the fact.
Why?

Were you testing yourself? I was testing the tests...
The ones that aren't an obvious answer, like which tarot card are you, I like to see if I test the same as everyone else who's an INTJ.

Any time I've taken a test that was posted in the forum it was to see how funny the test was. Nothing more.

I don't take any of the tests seriously, not even the MBTI. I take tests when I'm bored. Nothing more to it.

i would take test because it exercise my mind, our mind does not idle, if we want to stop thinking about a certain things we would simply think something else. taking test would be a good distraction since i would think about the test only at the time i am taking the test
however, over time it gets boring since i tend to start to be able to rig my answer based on what kind of answer i would like to have from the test, may be i should take the test before seeing the result
someday

i like tests.
I find them funny.
And when the result is as expected, i feel proud to be what i am...
I'm hoping a random and obscure internet test, somewhere, will contain the secret knowledge to unlock the mysteries of the universe, which will all become clear to me after I've taken it. That's why I take them. That, and, not being INTJ, finding out if I'm smart or not (computer says no).
Well the only point of taking a personality test is to learn about yourself isn't it? What does it mean when you retake a test and the result is somewhat different? Has something happened in your life that changed you, or are you just in a different mood and why are you in a different mood?
A test can also be re-assuring or exactly the opposite and prove that you're not like that at all.
Anyone who does a test is actually just looking for answers. Whether that person is aware of it or not, or understands the question is a different ballgame...

I don't usually take online quizzes except those here, just to compare.

Honestly, I do them in a pathetic attempt to find some sort of clue about myself; who I am, who I should become. I still don't know. I am sad.

Unlike other MBTI types we actually like taking tests (I think) that in real life at job or at school, tests doesn't intimidate us at all and end up with very high scores.

I suppose there are better uses for our time, but many of us here are trying to figure ourselves out still, these tests help. Even if we find that we only take them because they're funny. We are weird, and most of us smart. But there is more to us than that, so we may look at that, or use it as an experiment.

Seriously for me, I don't take tests unless there is truly something to be gained knowledge wise.
An online test determining what colour kitten I am doesn't spark too much interest.

Boredom.
Validation.
Amusement.
Now, can someone please create a test to determine why we take tests already, because that is what I thought this thread was going to be.

Hm, for me it's Mind Exercising, Entertainment, then seeing how good those Tests work and also...when Tests show exactly what I think about myself...it is somewhat...how can I put it...It makes me see I am not as "stupid" as I sometimes think. =p

Because it's entertaining and some times to test the efficiency of the test or because the test might be a useful typology or to test the correlations of other test takers but most of all and overall because it's entertaining

I'm a test junky. I learn something new about myself all the time & enjoy comparing the results with those of others. I find them entertaining...

I am pretty rubbish at knowing myself - although I can see into others pretty clearly - so they help me. I also like analysing the test itself. For instance, I thought that that test about 'how confident you are' was flawed - I did not like the way the questions and their replies were phrased at all.

Amusement about how often none of the answers work for you.
Analysis of how well the test works.

You've spotted me, I do love taking tests. Why so, when as you point out, we don't really need them? Hm...
As an INTJ, I am always curious about the status of things. Has anything changed? It's always possible. If so, what, and why? Even the Sun will go out, someday. Also, what is it that this test reveals? Does it give me clues as to how something else operates, or how I might relate to it? And what if I wasn't perfectly prepared the first time I took a test? What if this time, I come out as Samwise instead of Aragorn (I'm still Aragorn, apparently, and house Slytherin, and, well, INTJ.)
So I'd say it's burning curiousity, crossed with endless possibilities and understanding the mutablility of nature.

All tests aren't invaluable after all. Take the Myers Briggs--I learned alot about myself from it. Other tests sometimes give me a little bit of insight as well. I think overall most tests are worth it.

Several reasons.
- validation
- I'm addicted to taking tests
- I like to critique the test makers "typo here" "there weren't enough options" "those are very stereotypical views" etc. All in the name of fun.
- an outside opinion. I'm very bad at self reflection. I need an outside view to point me in the right direction. For example, the MBTI was very helpful in helping me figure out who in the world I am.
- some are so absurd they're amusing
