I like the Republic of Pemberley website. This is a site for Jane Austen fans. I met a very nice man on that site who lives in the UK and we have made e-mail friends (I live in Southern California). This site has discussion boards on each of Jane Austen's novels, group reads, and just the best information on the greatest novelist in the English language! Jane Austen was an INTJ, you know!
We Janeites are diehards. I have two bumperstickers on my car. One has a portrait of Jane Austen and says "Janeite." The other says, "My other car is a barouche."

I am a big Jane Austen fan, too!
Last winter I saw the new Pride and Prejudice movie with Kiera Knightly. I had read the book 8 years earlier, and the only thing I remembered was that we liked Mr. Darcy in the end. Well, the ending was so frustrating to me - he proposes; she replies "Well, then." - that I had to immediately get the book from the library and hurry up and read it because I wanted to know "what really happened".
After that, I read it again more slowly, to savor it.
Then I proceeded to go on a Pride & Prejudice binge where I watched 3 different film versions, spending well over 50 hours of time watching the Knightly version and the Colin Firth version many times each. (I don't have anything better to do in the winter.)
One of my favorite websites became a place people discuss the book, but where mostly students come to get help with their school work. (We could use a few more mature voices over there.) I like the site though because I like to help people.

I'm always excited to see other people who love Jane Austen. The film version with Colin Firth is the absolute best. The Keira Knightley version is just too short and not like the book, although I think she's a great Elizabeth Bennet. My daughter gave me a huge volume of all of Jane Austen's novels for my birthday - she knows what I love! There are other websites that cover Jane Austen, but the Republic of Pemberley is the best!

Otherwise, do you guys know about To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I'm sure a lot of you would find it interesting. From their website :
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.
The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).
This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. More than 200 talks from our archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.
---
Some of them are pretty damn interesting. I like to listen to them when I'm painting, etc. Feels like I'm getting double use of my time. Though sometimes I really need to concentrate because I'm not a native speaker.

It doesn't help that it sent my tax rate from the upper 20s to the low 40s in the course of 2 issues, then when I got it back down did so again, either. *sigh* And it's a pain to get back down.

I love TED ! The Jill Bolte Taylor story was a real rush for me.
*******************
I use google and wiki's of various sorts but the odds on favorite of mine is theoildrum.com which is about oil/energy.
Why ? because our earthly existence is dependent on energy and our modern world is, at it's most developed point, a result of oil - specifically cheap oil.
The cheap goop is gone and the globe has yet to realize.
Living WILL be interesting, as the Chinese curse intones. everyday forward. Paradigms are changing ... or dieing.

Define 'social appeal'.
In the context of the website, I'd define it as guidance for manipulating to social acceptance and confidence/ego builder.

BBC main site for news
Penny Arcade...still funny but getting more niche....
CtrlAltDel. Not funny anymore, but I still read it.
Gizmodo. Showcasing all the latest gadgets I will always pine for but never buy.
and at the moment random trawling through music software sites, guides and explanations everyday till I get bored.
