I have a month and a half of holidays coming up.

Which activity do you think I should spend most of my spare time on?

None of the above. Is it summer where you are? If so go laze around a swimming pool with a book and a cool drink. Swim if you aren't afraid of it and walk around in nature.

Actually, maybe working on the hairstyle would be the way to go. ;D

But if I take your suggestion, I won't have made any new progress.

That depends on how you define progress.

Electronics is a fun and inexpensive hobby. If you have no money, then programming is also cool.

Oh wow, I happened to pick martial arts, too...for a few reasons.

...not only because I am personally a fan (traditional wing chun kung fu!!!) and think it's fun/fascinating/healthy -- but also because it's one of the few things you listed that will cause you to regularly interact with some community of people, which is ALWAYS a healthy direction to encourage INTJ's to go in, in my opinion.

I think that was the only option you listed that would have you cross paths with any people, that's why I picked it (apart from the getting in touch with the ex thing which rarely seems like a healthy option from my experiences).

Why is getting hooked on laxatives not on there?

That depends on how you define progress.

Becoming able to do something because you invested time in it. Example, being a stronger chess player.

Electronics is a fun and inexpensive hobby. If you have no money, then programming is also cool.

I was about to say that electronics is kind of expensive. Programming is cool, you voted hacker didn't you.

I should mention that I intended to just practice what I know already, alone.

Your avatar looks like it got hooked on laxatives.

Finish Das Kapital, except go on to read The Society of the Spectacle (latest translation here (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)).

(Work on your car when you need a break from sitting and reading! That sounds like an awesome and useful project as well.)

So what have you been doing all day today so far with all these terrific ideas? ;D

Learning the basics will cost you less than $20 if you shop right (Digikey). Individual projects can cost anywhere from $10 to $500, depending on how crazy you get (high voltagewise).

I did vote for programming. I don't hack, but Stanford Online Engineering Courses (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) have some nice lessons.

I selected this: Start a blog online and try to make money

Reason, you will need some money for the coming holidays and you can leverage the blog to expand your knowledge on topics of interest. :)

The blog could be about mastering chess too.. that way is not too boring...:p

Currently the poll is tied for finishing Das Kapital and training Martial Arts. Get someone else to vote!

Only 73 pages, I'll probably finish this easy, along with "the mask of sanity". I'm going to have to fix my car anyway.

I'm not doing any of it yet, I'm too busy cramming for exams.

Great, you want me to finish my semester of engineering to go enjoy the holidays studying engineering. :stare: ... :p Nah, I like programming a lot, so long as I can make something fun and useful.

What, no masturbation option? BAH!!!

If it's any consolation, the universe will end some day, and everything everyone ever done will make no difference, so doing these things to enjoy myself is essentially masturbation.

Ok, I was about to say that I despise blogs, or most of them, because they're written by idiots, and go on to rant about how the english language is incompetent at transmitting ideas and it should be replaced with mathematics and logical proposition format sentences using symbols... but then you made me realize. If I have to blog about my progress, that's using my Te to keep my Ni in check PLUS being held accountable by randoms on the internet. Trouble is, if I try to make money off it, I'll mostly blog about trying to make money off blogs, and then I'll just be contributing to the pyramid scheme of get rich online bullshit. If the blog was not-for-profit, it would be different.

Well, it doesn't have to be for making money. It could simply be for something fun. But then again, there are probably other fun choices out-there than simply being in front of a computer blogging. Good luck on whatever option you choose, after all is your time and you should do what you feel fits. ;)

I had a fling LAST summer, hence the ex-mistress option. It's winter now.

Do ALL the things!

I similarly have a bucket of projects I'm in the middle of. Keeps life interesting. Every now and then I stop and just interface with other human beings too. It's a good policy.

Learn how to work on your own car. Why?

1) It's like a gift that keeps on giving.

2) You can invest the money you saved into better things... like guns, ammunition and go fast goodies for your ride.

I'll have to start today's squirrell hunt off with a prayer... Guns! Trucks! Glory! Death, death, death! I'm fired up now!

"... but officer, I wasn't speeding. I was fasting. The doctor told me it was good to fast once a week... What do you mean that isn't what he meant?

Having a team member that can use the power of fonic artes in battle would prove most useful. Perhaps I've been playing too many RPGs & shooting games... naaah.

Piano and martial arts are entirely about fine control and coordination.

Not to mention drawing anime (more fine control)

Essentially yes. In that case, I need to at least think I'm achieving something.

If you can acknowledge that, at least on an individual level, all progess leads to the grave, then the appeal of progress is reduced to a subterfuge.

The question should then become not "what can I do to accomplish something," but "what do I want to accomplish," and the key to knowing that answer lies not in the "what" but in "why."

Are skills more important than knowledge?

Is it better to satisfy yourself, or do something "for the good of society?"

If you can figure out why you want something, the what will probably present itself.

That's true, but it's so frickin morbid. I'll operate under the assumption that it makes a difference, just like I'm operating under the assumption that I have free will, otherwise I can't move forward. I've hacked my brain ;)

Personally I would spend my time between all of these but if you work best by focusing on just one thing then do what suits you.

(I did pick try and figure out the perfect hairstyle though, because if you do tell me, I've never been able to understand how hair is supposed to work)
