What technologies would you like to be in existence as part of your daily life?

I would love the concept of biomods. Basically, a chip wired onto the brain that allows a person to connect to a highly advanced form of the Internet. There will also be a HUD, dictionary, task manager, etc. And if a person doesn't want to control this system mentally, he/she can mentally project a hologram in front of them that allows them to control the system, simply by touching the air in front of them. Think of the Matrix, the women in Zion in the pure white room.

I would want the ability to teleport myself to anywhere in the universe. We would, of course, already have sent up an extensive network of neighboring planets and systems with friendly alien species.

I would love the ability to download skills/knowledge into my mind, like in The Matrix.

The ability to physically manifest my thoughts.

As a kid I was dreaming about technology to let me get ideas from my head into reality in their perfect ideal form. Before all, to be able to record the melody I think of - the way I hear it. (as Trent Reznor says "They don't sound as good outside my head") Then, I wanted to be able to make movies out of the stories I think of - just by imagining the scenes and "recording" my thoughts. (extra: recording your dreams in your sleep) Of course those could be not just our simple 2-D movies, but probably whole 3-D real worlds in action. etc. etc. (I later saw something similar in a movie called "Strange Days")
However, it's not about that those are impossible wishes, it's about that if they happen, it won't matter anymore. Who would care for movies when 7 billion people can make 20 of them a day? Who would listen to anything, when anybody can record their own music without even using an instrument?

Other wishes, more practical and close to current reality: well, it would be nice to get a house-maintaining robot. It would leave me more time to think and work. We already have a lot of advancements and that makes it very easy, but it could be completely independent of me.

Very nice thread, AresX9, thanks!

I want controllable brain to brain interfacing or digitally induced telepathy. I just think it would be interesting. I'd find all the people I deem mentally superior and download all their knowledge.

Functionally operational nano technology. Oh the possibilities.....

Virtual reality indistinguishable from normal reality therefore giving one the ability to do absolutely anything.

I don't dream unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of a clear mind. Not to mention you can't choose what to dream.

Phasers. I really want a phaser with a "torture" setting.

Seriously, I'd like to be able to travel great distances (or even Earthly distances) instantaneously.

Time travel.. Time and space travel together would be awesome.

Perfect world? Some sort of telepathy (brain scanner or whatever). Get people inside each others' heads for even a few seconds, and an awful lot of the world's problems would disappear over night.

What a bunch of dreamers. Most of the things I am hearing are either to make things easy, which tells you who is lazy and who is not. The others I hear sound to me something like "I want this because its interesting... wee".

I do not even know where to begin to give an original realistic answer. How about an 'idea generating machine' built into your brain's deep neuron circuitry. Sound crazy enough?

Ah so you dream to be Neo from the Matrix. Yeah we all have that dream (don't lie you know you do you guys).

Along with the Matrix-esque technologies suggested earlier, I would also like the ability to expand my natural memory. Hotpluggable drives as an example.

With a title like IN A PERFECT WORLD, this thread is the place for "dreamers."

I'm patiently socking my money away in my retirement account to prepare for the availability of these "dream techs". Look how many "sci-fi" dreams have already been realized. I am sure we are going to solve the death problem fairly soon, but I am also sure it won't be cheap.

Will the Singularity just hurry up and get here? (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)

AresX9, I like the avatar, btw. Have you read "Physics of the Impossible"?

Edit: more specifically, did it inspire the thread?

The book didn't inspire the thread, but it was a major factor of my decision of being a Physics Major.

How about tires that don't go flat? Engines that run on garbage and create no waste? Thought activated appliances? Great tasting food that doesn't make you fat or have a sugar crash? Dogs that come when you call them?

The ability to hit an arbitrary milestone in your post count and have it go unnoticed? ;)

Cyberware would be nice: brain implants of all sorts, datajacks, artificial eyes, and the like. Also, I'ld like to have a William Gibson-style matrix, not that second life thing which is just too much a simulation of reality to be fun.

I know that they are working on some of that stuff right now.

Robotic stunt doubles to stand in for me at staff meetings would be nice.

On a more serious note, it would be grand...absolutely grand...if knowledge didn't require so much effort that people would simply choose to forgo it and live in ignorance. (I'm frustrated by a debate on another forum right now.) Some sort of instantaneous learning mechanism...hrmm. Maybe good, maybe pandora's box. What do you guys think?

I want a bio-feedback controlled cyborg body consisting of a nano-machine grafted 1-to-1 on a cell.
If it can manipulate your body chemistry, you can use it at will to regenerate wounds, regrow limbs, stay awake as long as you want (or instantly fall asleep), nullify allergic reactions, tailor-make your immune system, have perfect memory, shape changing, immortality, eternal youth, ect...

The list goes on. The longer I think about it, the more I come up with.
