i'm just curious or am i over generalizing..

i've seen a lot of intj's avatars that are either wolves or foxes.. or whatever canine.. most intj's i know loves canines as a symbol of themselves. in another forum, the intj guy i know is a fox geek. i, myself, am also fond of wolves and would often sketch them when i was in elementary. if i get a question from someone, "what animal represents you," i tell them she-wolf. at home, i keep 2 german sheperds and my male dog, nathan, has a temperament close to a wolf - solitary, overprotective and loyal. if i could keep a wolf as a pet and a companion where ever i go, i think it would be wonderful

I agree! A wolf as a pet would be totally awesome!
I'm sure there's some domesticated wolves out there somewhere.

It's funny, because the INTJ I know has always inexplicably reminded me of a fox. Sly, solitary, and sometimes playful. He even kind of looks like a fox.

I've always loved horses, but I know I'm not really like them. I think they're beautiful animals and I love to just watch them play in a pasture.

I've always loved all canines.
Even when I was very very very young, I was never afraid of big dogs. I've always had a fascination with wolves. I always thought I could relate to them.

I've also always been an animal lover in general. I've always been more interested in horses, dolphins, and dogs though, and I own quite a lot of fact books on them. I used to be able to name the breed of horse/dog/species of dolphin/whale/porpoise just by looking at them... that's how geeky I am ::)

I like the picture of the Arctic Fox on this site. I like wolves.
I have always wanted to have a pet tiger.

Agh, I've wanted to have frequent visits from wolves in my backyard (maybe that's why I want to live among the wilderness)
I'd never want to keep them as pets though

I've been told I seem like a wolf. That was when I started thinking about using it as a nick and as an avatar, but now that I think of it, I've always had some kind of bond with canines.

Funny thing is that I love dogs/wolves also, but they're pack animals... Not sure what about that would appeal to me. Cats would seem to be a more logical choice, but I'm not a big fan.

Synchronisity. We just got a cat from the SPCA on the weekend. He looks like a wolf - we nearly called him 'Wolf".

I think that wolves are awesome creatures. I've seen documentaries that show their hunting tactics, which I find to be fascinating and quite intelligent.

If I had to choose between a fox and wolf. I would say wolf because they are closely look like a dog. As long the dog don't bite me, then its all cool. Sadly, the reality after saying this, "I hope all animal lovers and INFJ's does not flipped out", in the past, all the animals I had died on me; goldfish, 2 rabbits, huge geninue pig, etc. Why darn it? Why these animals had to die on me? I like animals too

For INTPs I'd have to go with either Cats.

Highly Independant, Quirky personalities, Self Sufficient, Very Efficient.

I've thought of myself as a wolverine since I was about 9 or 10, but I've always just said wolf to avoid association with the X-Men character of the same name.

As for pets, I like dogs and horses. Horses are very interesting people. :P

I don't care for dogs, wolves, or foxes. As pets, I find that they're too hyper and emotinaly needy. I think lots of people claim to relate to them because they are socially similar to the human race.

I like hares. They're quiet, discreet, solitary animals. You have to earn their trust, unlike most dogs who will love unconditionally. I wish they were domesticated.

New here and will introduce myself soon.

I lived with a dog pack (5 large dogs) for many years and had more control over them than most people have with 1. Last year I discovered Jan Fennell, the original dog listener (not to be confused by the one that claims to be so on cable) and she confirmed what I intuitively understood about our dogs. They are all about the pack and make the best companions when you can speak to them in their own pack language. She has some great books out on the topic if anyone is interested. Makes 100% intuitive sense.

But I'm a glutton for punishment and have the ambition to do the same with cats. I live with 13 of them, all former feral (and 2 dogs). If you really want an intellectual challenge, try to understand feral cats. Their behavior most closely resembles lions.

No way, man. I shall point out which animal is most like the I. N. T. J. in that other thread, but why do so many enjoy wolves and foxes? Because they are some kind of intelligent, or because they look cool? Eh. Foxes look cool. Wolves are scary, though. Now, a coyote sounds cool. oh well. Nasty canines. Yay cats. *runs away*

Time to derail the thread...

I identify strongly with the wolves, and have done some research as to the possibilities of why this may be so. There are several shamanistic teachings on the wolf as an animal totem, and I think that there is some validity in it. For example, here's something that I have found concerning a particular version of a wolf totem on the Innernets:

To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

This is most likely nothing more than another type of horiscope, but I think there's something to this particular totem. At least I can identify with it. :-[

Also, not to mention, wolves and other canines are just kind of cool, in a spooky way. For example, in the northern European cultures wolves inspired fear. The tribal cultures, the berserkers all over the world in particular, embraced this concept and incorporated it into their fighting technique, and would dress up in animal skins. This was for a dual purpose, one to inspire fear in their enemies and also on the belief that the spirit that was the animal would embrace them and would empower them on the battlefield. This was true of wolves, bears, large cats and other predators but seem to be restricted to the larger animals as opposed to smaller ones such as wolverines. This was also true of raptors, as in the native American tribes. Being an avid gamer in the realm of fantasy, I have a strong tie to this sort of thing in a hero-worship sort of way.

I looked over the avatars with the mindset that I wanted either a wolf, wizard, or dark theme. I settled on the one I'm currently using because most of the wolf ones were already in use by other people and I didn't want to go with a cliche Raistlin or Arthas. :-/

Hopefully that didn't derail the thread too much, but those are my thoughts on why I think wolves are cool.

I'm an INTP and I adore wolves. It was always the lone wolf I identified with.

If anyone ever reads (or has read) Women who Run with the Wolves it makes it very understandable why the wolf is such a potent symbol in the human mind.

As companion pets though, I prefer cats over dogs - much more independent.

Yes. Absolutely. Wolves are my favourite animals, and I deeply love them. They represent me exactly. I'd just wish to have a pack, but I'd rather be alone than with the wrong crowd.
