View Full Version : What do you want for Christmas?

What is the one present you most desire for Christmas?
... and why?

Gives us a window into each other.
(Unless you've boarded up the window.. bah humbug! ;D).

I would like cash for Christmas, so that I can buy myself whatever I want. <_<

The no-cost, peace of mind gift; for my adult step-son to move out

The cost-is-no-object gift; 2 all-inclusive tickets to the Monaco Grand Prix, hotel, airfare, etc...

The selfish, thinking of no one else gift; a new laptop

The realistic, business as usual gift; nothing

um... nothing really.
All the things I wish I could have is not something I want to spend money/money spent on at the moment. Christmas, or no Christmas, my priorities are the same.

Probably some books. Exactly which books are yet to be determined.

Got the laptop I'm using last year for Christmas. Okay in the department.

We usually end up choosing what we want; surprises don't seem to work for us generally.

If I could have anything in the world I would like a bazooka, it's my constitutional right. What I'll actually get for Christmas is being away from my immediate family(WOOO!!) and a Cosby sweater.

Same, but I want it before Christmas.

I haven't celebrated Christmas in forever. Any presents I do get, I donate to local charities. Some of my friends and family don't quite get it ;)

Okay, here's me giving in.

A bunch of books I've been meaning to get. (because I'm a book whore)
A new camera. (because I'm sick of outdated hand-me-downs that are on the brink of falling apart when my sister owns an amazing camera that's just sitting there collecting dust)
Fencing gear. (because I want to compete)
A car. (because i'm tired of waiting for rides, and the bus system in Canada SUCKS)

My birthday is gonna come sooner than Christmas though, so it'd probably make more sense if it was birthday gift. *Plus, if i got fencing gear for my birthday, I can attend the tourneys taking place at the end of November*

Yeah, me too, but I don't see that happening unless money is chipped in by relatives. *sigh*

I would like cash for Christmas, so that I can buy myself whatever I want. <_<Me to.. I really don't want or feel like I need anything special. I'll buy myself some books wich I will hopefully get some new views and knowledge from reading them, and maybe a new graphic card etc. for my computer (I need to be able to continue playing games like Mediaval 2: Total War). Christmas or not its all the same with me.

I'm hard to buy for, since if I want something I just go out and buy it. That said, cash is always good, and I want a car that's actually fast. The former will help me get the latter.

I hoping for some cash. I think the nicest thing, I've done last Christmas eve/day was singing live online to the single people out there on these 2 days. I know there is no true holiday for the single and lonely people. Kinda messed up isn't it; so I sung a song called Keep ya head up. Alot of people enjoyed it, if you are single and lonely. As for the other, I had a neutral online gathering of other Americans from different parts, who actually agreed with me about this, "Who said I hate the Americans?" This does piss me off, no barriers now. It was great, I went head on, no one said, "I don't agree with you." But the reverse, something to be proud about as an INTJ. My general comments were, "If you got something to say, please forward them to our Congressmen, not us." It like send spam in your email box, who wants that.

So on these 2 days, I've done something positive online.

Some shares of steadily rising stocks *
Which reminds...
What do I want?
Besides making a good meal for the family, I don't have much material need.

I would like this:

... an old stock ticker machine. * It's a quaint 70+ years old non-functioning gadget that imprinted on tape the price of stock-listed companies (hence the phrase 'ticker tape parade'). * Not only ornamental in function and an amazing invention in its day, it would remind me that a share price is only the sum irrationalities of investors, as churned out by the machine itself.

Yeah I'm hard to buy for as well. But I like it when people at least try to give a creative present. I think money is just the lazy mans gift.

I can answer this truthfully and say I don't have much desire for material things, but I think it would be more fun to indulge myself in some old fashioned coveting ;)

1. giant cutting board (for my art projects)
2. high quality copy machine (also for art projects)
3. loft bed (so I can move back into my room)
4. giftcard to Texas Art Supply (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) with at least $50 on it
5. graphics tablet

ahhh... wishful thinking...

La Jolla is overrated. Seriously. Its beautiful, but the people there are largely inherited-money-nothings who don't have a personality.

Del Mar or downtown is better, Encinatas better still.

Amen to that!

As for me...
Generally I ask for some DVDs or books. In specific...well, that's always something that I have to ponder. On one hand, I have limited space to stow stuff and on the other, if I really need it, I'll acquire it on my own.

:) all i have to say is money. I tell those who want to bare gifts to i. Is to just give me money or the receipt to the gift .

Like some people said before" I can go out and buy it myself" And most times i do find a better deal :)

My family was so damn cruel last year. They said i had to buy gifts for them instead of money. It took me 3 freaking months to come up with a idea of what to buy them. And i only had 2 days to pick up the gifts before Christmas eve. If they ever say that to me again, i am going to disown them. :suspicious:

I want this semester to be over.

Apart from that, yeah, I want money. Oh and food. Being a college student where there are no meal plans, I end up eating toast most of the time.

during the past few days i was ranting how my work sucked big time. last night when i was contemplating on my christmas wishlist, one of them is to invent a remote which will automatically eject stupid people when my ibm's on 99.9%. just this morning, i had a "eureka" moment and it was a good thing for me that i have my colored pencils here in the office to materialize my beautful piece of work. it has been eons since i drew something and so far, this is my magnum opus.

i find this a work of art a genius! something that could help me alleviate stress here in the office. but since this gift to myself is something precious, i'm hiding it in a very nicve and accessible place - under my keyboard - where i could easily look at it in times of need.

Hmm....
Practically:
books is about all I'll ask for. I'll get what else I *need*

Wishful thinking:
Saddle,
Stringer that's not a prince neos.

Other than that though.....not too much. I don't ask for really anything. Except maybe a book or two.

I never even think about Christmas until about 3 weeks beforehand -- at least, when my mom calls me and asks what I want, I have no answer. I'm always thinking about my friends, though.

My wish every year is to get a clue, but if I had to substantiate it...I'd like a bike. Haven't had one in a while, and I hate driving everywhere . That or some hiking equipment so I can get out there.

I always found the custom of giving presents for Christmas embarassing and somehow unnecessary. It can easily distract attention from the true value of being together with those who you love and may forces you to take part in the shopping-madness. :-(

Very true. But on the occassion that I know I've gotten someone the perfect, well-thought out gift for them I feel very achieved... uhh... oh yeah, and glad I made someone happy, joy of giving blah blah blah :P

Shouldn't the question be "What are you going to GIVE for Christmas?"

Here in America; because its such a selfish, spoiled, rude, decadent society - its all about wanting & getting.......isn't it? No wonder most of the rest of the World hates us.

The solstice matters to me, but not christmas.

I have a recurring (unfulfilled) christmas yearning though... a week of solitude in the wilderness.

Nothing but me, the mountains, and the sky. Bliss.

What I wanted for Christmas- what I couldn't buy or get, I got! My friend back!!

But I also got this amazing sailing jacket, and THE softest/warmest robe ever, among lots of other things. I wish they'd cut back a little... but it was really mostly stuff I really wanted/needed, but it still seems outrageously extravagant. I'm really blessed. Sorry if that's too cheesy, but it's true. Plus, everyone was healthy and made it another year to Christmas.
